    Saracens 15-6 Sale

Approaching the half hour mark at Allianz Park.

Sarries now look assured with the lead they have, while Sale have really struggled to get ruthless winger Denny Solomona into the game.

Try (Short, con Simmonds)published at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Exeter 7-7 Newcastle

End-to-end action at Sandy Park, oh and how happy the home fans are.

Newcastle looked on their way to a second try, having patiently built up after multiple phases. They were knocking loudly on the door with Vereniki Goneva threatening again...  well that was until  James Short  ran the ball straight back down their throat, collecting the ball deep in his own territory to touchdown for the 11th time this term.

    Terrifically exciting stuff.

  3. try

Try (Adams, con Mills)published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Northampton 0-7 Worcester

Saints cleared their lines but from the line-out Worcester come charging forward from first phase ball with outside centre Wynand Olivier cutting through the hosts' midfield. Josh Adams the full-back is on his outside shoulder and it's a fine finish in the corner.

It's also a smart conversion from Ryan Mills and Worcester fully rewarded for their early endeavour.

  4. Northampton 0-0 Worcesterpublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

Early scare for Saints as Dewald Potgieter charges down Ben Foden's kick and appears to have a clear run to the line - only for Craig Maxwell-Keys to bring play back for an earlier knock-on.

Worcester get a fine shove on at the scrum and win the penalty, Ryan Mills fires the visitors up to the Saints 22 but the maul is held up and Saints will get a scrum. This time they clear their lines. Good opening five minutes for Worcester.

  5. try

Try (Ashton, con Lozowski)published at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Saracens 15-6 Sale

    Chris AshtonImage source, Rex Features

Two household names combine to score a quite brilliant try for the champions.

Richard Wigglesworth's kick is judged to perfection, and bounces favourably for fellow out-of-favour England international Chris Ashton to dot down.

Sale's Michael Haley was certainly outwitted by Wigglesworth there, and Alex Lozowski adds the extras.

  6. Penalty (Lozowski)published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Saracens 8-6 Sale

It's Sale's turn to show indiscipline.

They are penalised at the scrum and Alex Lozowski defies the wind to add the three points.

  7. Penalty (MacGinty)published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Saracens 5-6 Sale

That was a bit of a mountain out of a molehill.

Sarries' Jim Hamilton and opposite number George Nott have a little scuffle on the floor, and after much deliberation with the TMO, referee Tim Wigglesworth awards the visitors a penalty.

It took a while for Sale to decide what to do, but AJ MacGinty held his nerve to kick through the posts.

  8. try

Try (Goneva, con Takulua)published at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Exeter 0-7 Newcastle

Well, that was quick and impressive from the visitors.

Calum Green gets Newcastle in the mood with a bustling run out of midfield, with the flowing move finished by Vereniki Goneva in the corner.

That try had it all. Great start by Falcons.

  9. Kick-offpublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Northampton 0-0 Worcester

After a perfectly-observed minute's silence for Dan Vickerman, we're underway at Franklin's Gardens with Northampton playing towards the pond, down the slope, in the first half.

  10. Kick-offpublished at 15:01

    Exeter 0-0 Newcastle

And we are underway at Sandy Park.

  11. try

Duncan Taylor tryImage source, Rex Features

You just can't keep the champions down.

They started sluggishly, with several handling errors, but following a period of pressure Duncan Taylor goes over out wide to give Sarries the lead.

That score has gone down particularly well at Allianz Park as this is Taylor's comeback game after injury.

Alex Lozowski misses a tricky conversion.

    Now for a solemn moment.

A minute's silence will take place prior to kick-off at Franklin's Gardens in memory of former Saints player Dan Vickerman, who died last weekend aged 37.

The lock played 63 Tests for Australia, featuring in three World Cups, and spent the 2009-10 season with Northampton whilst studying at Cambridge University.

  13. Postpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Saracens 0-3 Sale

Nine minutes gone and Sale's Will Addison has hobbled off with a concerning-looking injury.

AJ MacGinty has come on in his place - that's a big blow for the visitors as Addison has been a big part of their recent upturn in form.

On the pitch, Sarries have looked a bit ring-rusty though they do have the wind against them in the first half.

Worcester back-rower Phil Dowson comes in as one of three Warriors changes against his old club, who he will rejoin as assistant coach this summer.

  16. Penalty (Addison)published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Saracens 0-3 Sale

Saracens are penalised at the breakdown in the opening minutes, and Will Addison puts the penalty through for Sale via the post.

It looked to be a straightforward kick but Addison made a bit of a meal of that.

As we build up to the other two matches, there was plenty of news for Saints fans to tuck into this week.

Lock  Christian Day and Luther Burrell are among 11 Northampton Saints players to have extended their contracts this week.

Let that sink in a moment... imagine the paperwork!

Wing Ken Pisi, centre Juan Pablo Estelles, back-rower Ben Nutley and scrum-half Tom Kessell have signed new deals.

Tom Stephenson, who has spent this term injured, and four youngsters also stay - hookers Charlie Clare and Reece Marshall, lock Jordan Onojaife and Stephenson's fellow centre Rory Hutchinson - complete the roll-call of names to extend their stay at Franklin's Gardens.

  18. Kick-offpublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Saracens 0-0 Sale

The first of our three Premiership matches is underway, at Allianz Park.

Champions Sarries are looking to avoid a third defeat in a row, while Sale come into the game off the back of an impressive victory over leaders Wasps.

  20. So, we meet again...published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

Saracens v Sale Sharks (14:45 GMT)

Well 15 Premiership games have come and gone for most this season already, and yet Saracens and Sale have gotten to know each other better than most this season.

Today will be their FOURTH meeting this term!

Sarries won both games in the Champions Cup group stages, and were also victorious 28-13 in the reverse fixture.

Can the Sharks turn the tide (oceanic pun intended).
