Even though it was against the team of his youth, today's victory will have only added to his legend in these parts.

We will look at the video tonight and announce the team to the squad tomorrow night. I thought the back three were good and I had told both Nowell and Daly that there were chances for them. You never know what is going to change between the first and third Test.

Pretty much everyone who took the field today bolstered their Test credentials on the back of a healthy win, but here's a little review of the men furthest into the black as we approach the All Blacks.

Courtney Lawes - line-out prowess combined with athleticism in the loose. Another head knock today checked his progress, but might well be in the XV had he had a clear run into the first Test.

James Haskell - more like the force of nature that put the wind up the Aussies Down Under last summer.

Liam Williams - able to get his wheels rolling for the first time in anger, some lovely angles and steps.

Elliot Daly and Jack Nowell - both whirlwinds of energy, looking for the ball and openings. Their tours are far from done.

Liam Williams is probably not going to start at full-back this weekend, but he is the best attacking full-back the Lions have. He played beautifully, picking some great lines and linking well with the wingers and centres. Sticking with the back three, Jack Nowell - who with two tries is now the joint top scorer with penalty tries on tour - showed Warren Gatland that he's back to his best.

Dan Biggar at 10 was very good and let the ball do a lot of the work, rather than the boot. Overall the attack looked as fluid as we've seen all tour. It's amazing when there's a collective feeling of "this might be our last chance to showcase what we can do" which brings out a freedom of play.

I absolutely loved watching the game. Hats off to all of them. In the pack Courtney Lawes was very physical, Justin Tipuric, James Haskell and CJ Stander combing really well in a back row which functioned very well, and the front row was dominant.

Lions series are all about peaking individually and collectively for the Test series and on the evidence tonight you've got to say they are doing just that. Roll on Saturday!

The Lions continue their off-field charm offensive in the aftermath of the match.

Lions captain Rory Best speaking to Sky Sports: "I told the lads before kick-off that if we let this one slip by you'll regret it. We have not been getting the wins but we have been putting ourselves into positions to win and win comfortably.

"We picked ourselves off the ground and did well. It would have been easy to give away a try in the final stages there but we kept marching forward and to have a tight-head prop make the turn-over in the last three minutes summed it up."

What a performance from the Lions. They looked threatening with and without the ball and played for the full 80 minutes. It is a perfectly timed win to feed the energy back into the Test team for Saturday's first Test.

Defensively they suffocated the Chiefs, who didn't really have a sniff of a try. Andy Farrell's defensive system has pretty much fully functioned this tour and the All Blacks are going to have to work hard for their points.

A nice moment post match as the Lions come together in a huddle and on a call from CJ Stander all shove their hands into the middle on a pre-rehearsed celebration call.

The midweek massive, the dirttrackers, whatever you call them, they have their first win of this tour.

And the first string are heading into the first Test on a bounce.

After all the talk of Warren Gatland devaluing the Lions jersey by calling up a handful of players deemed undeserving, only Allan Dell of the new additions has come onto the field, and that was a necessity with Joe Marler in the sin bin.

Gatland clearly was using these players as injury cover and injury cover only; it's incredibly rare in the modern game -especially with a 30-point lead - for the replacements not to be used.

Dan Coles gets in to disrupt and steal. Great work from the prop who has come on strong in the last 20 minutes.

'Last play,' shouts the ref. Dan Biggar does not need telling twice.

He wallops the kick dead to end the match.

A bit of rumble as Atu Moli pinches Rory Best's scrumcap and the pair roll around in the hay.

Iain Henderson has put his hand up for a selection in Warren Gatland's Test squad. The Ulsterman has done his reputation no harm on this tour, impressive at the ruck and strong as an ox going forward.

As the Lions huffed and puffed their way over the white wash, the 6ft 6 lock was the man who forced the referee into awarding the penalty try. His pass to Jack Nowell for his second try was one that an out-half would be proud of.
