Have we been too critical of the goal kicking in this World Cup?

Will we see tries in the second half?

Or will England bash their way to glory?

    HT: England 3-3 France

Well, not quite the scintillating rugby of the first semi-final, but a tense affair nonetheless.

Conditions haven't helped and defences have been on top so it's just one penalty apiece for the two sides.

    Time for some oranges.

    England 3-3 France

England's try-scoring opportunities have been few and far between so far.

They'll end the half with the ball though as they make it into the French half with the clock on red, but Sarah Bern knocks on as she goes to ground.

    And that's that.

It's looking like Danielle Waterman will not be returning at full-back for England after that HIA and Meg Jones will stay on the pitch.

Waterman is the only player to have started all of England's games at this World Cup.

  6. Penalty - Izarpublished at 38 mins

    England 3-3 France

That's a fantastic long-range effort from Shannon Izar to draw France level.

    England 3-0 France

Julie Annery, in for the injured Romane Menager, makes a half-break on the right for the French but it's a battle of the defences so far this afternoon and Kay Wilson gets back to haul her down.

England have made 71 tackles this half - a bruising first 40 minutes.

They lead though, with three points on the board, as we approach the break.

And France have turned it over.

England just can't recycle the ball quick enough at the breakdown and they're penalised for holding on.

Alex Matthews is the latest player to become isolated and it's an easy decision for the referee.

Katy Mclean executes an inch-perfect pass to centre Emily Scarratt who runs clear of the French defence.

Her offload finds Natasha Hunt who is hauled down. England are up to the five-metre line and this is their first sniff of a try.

It's with the forwards as Sarah Hunter drives towards the line but the French defence is up quickly and they're withstanding this pressure.

    England 3-0 France

Sarah Hunter has been strong so far at the back of the England scrum which is coming under huge pressure from the French pack.

Katy Mclean with another huge clearance which is collected by Montserrat Amedee who gains at least five metres on the slide.

The pitch is glistening and it's making running rugby - like we had in the first semi-final - a bit difficult.

Lenaig Corson with a fine run down the left-hand side but after a scrap for the ball it's a French knock-on.

There's a real battle for possession going on down there but it's all a bit stop-start because of the wet conditions.

Meanwhile England full-back Danielle Waterman goes off for an HIA and Meg Jones is the temporary replacement.

But it's stolen. Curse of the commentator.

Katy Mclean gets the ball clear but it could open up for the French here.

France will be looking to maul this, just five metres out - real stress for this England defence.

It's a second take in as many minutes for the French from their line-out - a significant improvement.

They've got their driving maul going too and it's pulled down illegally by Abbie Scott.

Tides have turned again, it's the French who are exerting all the pressure.

Montserrat Amedee's kick takes them up to the five-metre line, another close shave though from the full-back.

    England 3-0 France

Katy Mclean puts in a brilliant kick to pin France back on their 22-metre line.

England rush up to stop the quick line-out and France are forced to go right to the front to secure the ball.

Sarah Bern is penalised for a high tackle on French prop Julie Duval though and France escape.

    England 3-0 France

That was close from Montserrat Amedee. The full-back just makes touch with her penalty despite the best efforts of England captain Sarah Hunter.

But the French line-out is not yet firing, England steal and hooker Amy Cokayne gallops off up the field.

France back in possession though and they're up to halfway. The wet conditions mean there might be less sparkle from their backline as they plough up the middle. Shame.

The rain means the two sides will need to go 'route A' more, with more forward carries, but if they trust their skill-set there's no reason why they can't go wide.

    England 3-0 France

France are showing glimpses of the fine running rugby they played against the Irish.

Montserrat Amedee offloads to Caroline Ladagnous but it's one pass too far for Shannon Izar and the ball dribbles over the sideline.

France have dazzled throughout the competition with their high tempo rugby. Amedee has been a revelation and she'll need to continue that top form if France are to see off the world champions.

  19. Penalty - Scarrattpublished at 18 mins

    England 3-0 France

Boom. England are on the board.

There was a lot of talk before the match that England's 'weakness' would be their goal-kicking.

But that's a good start from Emily Scarratt.

    England 0-0 France

The referee does a little dance there as he gets in the way of the England passing move.

The Strictly line-up has already been confirmed for this year I'm afraid. He could make the reserves thought.

Meanwhile England are starting to get themselves into this match and they've won a penatly in a kickable position.
