There is a bit of bite and spice out there.

England's players gather around Joe Launchbury, whooping and slapping the second row's back in congratulations after his mere presence in the defensive line caused Samson Lee to knock on.

Referee Jerome Garces gives them a little warning about inflaming the opposition.

Confrontational attacking from Wales there, trying to blast through England. But it's meat and drink to the English defence who are covering quickly. They forced Rhys Patchell to try and go out wide but there were four defenders over there in a flash. Phenomenal defending.

    England 12-3 Wales

That's a good defensive set from England, as Wales fail to make ground from the line-out and Samson Lee knocks-on.

England congratulate each other wildly, and another scuffle almost ensues.

Jerome Garces will be keen to avoid another set of wild slaps and empty punches.

England's penalty count is up to five now, but Wales aren't going for the points.

Andrew, Monmouth: Need VAR on the video ref after that decision!! Disgraceful!

Sion Morgan: Can someone clarify why Jonny May's first try was given a try and Wales were denied on grounding? May never actually grounds the ball - technically he holds it up himself. For Wales' denied try there was clear downward pressure on the ball. Am I missing something?

Danny Care big bazooka box-kick pins Rhys Patchell back on the edge of his own 22m.

The England scrum-half proving he can do the strategy as well as fancy footwork.

Wales are making some gains with some forward rumbles though.

These guys are shattered. Big hits and hard defence has been the story so far in this game. They've put in so much work and there are a lot of tired forwards out there already. It could be down to the respective benches.

    England 12-3 Wales

Alun Wyn Jones has a word with referee Jerome Garces about England's infringement in the midfield.

England have conceded four penalties, to just one from Wales after 25 minutes.

    He may have a point...

"I conceded one, accidentally," adds the Welsh captain.

    Well, that is controversial.

It looked like Gareth Anscombe had got to the loose ball a millimetre and a micro-second before Anthony Watson.

    To my eye anyway.

The video official decides it was Watson who won the race.

    England 12-0 Wales

A positive start from the home side, who have controlled possession in the first 20 minutes.

Jonny May with two clean breaks, and two tries for England. But that was a try set up by England's ball retention in the forwards.

Mako Vunipola, Joe Launchbury and Chris Robshaw have six carries each.

    Matt Dawson
Former Lions and England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live

What an offload from Joe Launchbury! England played so many phases there, edging inch by inch closer to the Wales tryline. The ball was flung out to Launchbury who somehow, like Mr Tickle, got his arm round the three Welsh players bundling him into touch to flip it to Jonny May who got over again.

Converted try - England 12-0 Walespublished at 20 mins

    Jonny May (con Farrell)

An outrageous offload from Joe Launchbury to unlock the door.

The big second row surges for the corner as England shift wide, Josh Adams and Rhys Patchell limpet onto the big second row, but cannot prevent a tentacle getting free and popping the ball back inside for Jonny May to stroll over the final metre unopposed.

And the conversion is meat and drink for Owen Farrell.

Players from both side are coming up from the turf smeared in the purple dye used to make out the sponsor's logo on the centre of the pitch.

The traditionalists are not going to like that.

    Or the kit managers.

    England 5-0 Wales

The close-quarter battle is fiercely contested and pretty even.

England batter up around the fringes and are repelled by the red defence.

Trench warfare in midfield as the two teams battle for inches either side of the gain line.

And Wales turn over the ball as Mike Brown is enveloped by Ken Owens.

Don't be conned by that early Jonny May score. This is tight.
