  1. try

Try Scotland! George Turnerpublished at 34 mins

    USA 6-21 Scotland

Scotland's hat-trick hero from last weekend helps himself to another try.

Stuart Hogg booms a huge penalty to touch to give the Scots an attacking line-out 10m out.

Turner's throw finds Ben Toolis and the rolling maul, such a potent weapon against Canada, rumbles towards the line. It is brought down just short but Turner is on hand to plough over from close range.

Blair Kinghorn nails the touchline conversion and the scoreboard has a more comfortable look to it for the Scots.

  2. Jinky MacGintypublished at 32 mins

    USA 6-14 Scotland

Really smart play from USA fly-half AJ MacGinty.

From a scrum on the home 22 MacGinty shapes to kick but steps away from three tackles before feeding flanker John Quill. When the ball is recycled MacGinty is back in position to ping a gorgeous spiral kick into touch deep in Scottish territory.

  3. Penalty USA: AJ MacGintypublished at 29 mins

    USA 6-14 Scotland

Stung by that penalty try, the USA hit back to keep themselves in the hunt with another penalty from AJ MacGinty.

The USA are doing a lot of good things but their handling is just undermining their efforts at the moment.

That penalty try call is very harsh on the USA. Perhaps a yellow for Manoa but a penalty try into the bargain when there’s another man covering George Horne is over the top from Wayne Barnes.

  5. Penalty try Scotland!published at 26 mins

    USA 3-14 Scotland

From the line-out Nick Grigg makes a half-break in midfield. From the next phase Peter Horne darts through a gap and links up with brother George.

The young scrum-half looks to step inside his man and go for the line but he is hit hard and high by USA lock Samu Manoa.

Referee Wayne Barnes awards the penalty try and Manoa is sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes.

I wonder if there was a message during the water break to kick the ball more. The opening 15-20 minutes were frantic, it was great to watch, but Scotland never put boot to ball.

  7. A physical affairpublished at 24 mins

    USA 3-7 Scotland

The Americans are dominating the collisions at the moment and Matt Fagerson is the latest Scot to be smashed back in the tackle.

Adam Hastings goes to the air and the home side are penalised for blocking the chasers.

Stuart Hogg bangs the ball into touch to give the Scots a line-out on the American 22.

  8. 'USA have been the better side'published at 02:30 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    USA 3-7 Scotland

    Tom English
Chief sports writer, BBC Scotland at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston

Scotland might have the lead but the USA are the better side so far. They’re spilling a lot of ball, but they’re looking dangerous.

Meanwhile, there’s an American journalist in the box with us here who’s going the incur the wrath of the visiting Rottweilers from the Scottish media if he doesn’t pipe down with his know-all, know-nothing commentary. Could get more intense in here than it is out there.

  9. Horne at homepublished at 20 mins

    USA 3-7 Scotland

George Horne looks very comfortable on his first international appearance for Scotland. He is getting to every ruck so quickly and his service from the base is slick.

Blair Kinghorn has a penalty to re-establish Scotland's seven-point lead but pushes it just wide.

We have a much-needed water break and our American broadcasting hosts take the opportunity to do an in-game interview with Gregor Townsend!

What a time to be alive.

  10. Penalty USA: AJ MacGintypublished at 17 mins

    USA 3-7 Scotland

It's been a period of sustained pressure from the USA and they finally have something to show for it as fly-half AJ MacGinty knocks over his first penalty attempt of the match.

We know Scotland like to play a fast game but when the USA have possession they are also looking to play at a really high tempo.

  12. Lasike the danger manpublished at 13 mins

    USA 0-7 Scotland

The home side have responded pretty well to that early Blair Kinghorn try.

Centre Paul Lasike is going to be handful for the Scottish defence. He's powerful and has a lovely step so will ask questions of the Scottish midfield.

It's pretty frantic at the moment. USA are piling the pressure on Scotland and forcing penalties. They have gone to the air when playing advantage a few times but the tactic has yet to pay off.

  13. USA look to hit backpublished at 9 mins

    USA 0-7 Scotland

The USA serve notice that they will not merely roll over here. They go through several phases of hard ball-carries and work themselves into the Scotland 22, but they lose the ball forward in the tackle and Scotland can regroup.

American wing Marcel Brache looks very dangerous with ball in hand and the Scots will need to guard against loose kicks to the speedster.

  14. Slick Scotspublished at 5 mins

    USA 0-7 Scotland

"They are very quickly into their pattern," says John Beattie in commentary of Scotland's start.

Whereas last weekend they took a while to get going against Canada, today they are playing with real tempo from minute one.

The half-backs of George Horne and Adam Hastings look so lively.

Peter Horne is distributing well from the 12 channel, but as I'm typing he takes half a second too long on the ball and gets absolutely pole-axed!

  15. try

Try Scotland! Blair Kinghornpublished at 2 mins

    USA 0-7 Scotland

What a start for the Scots!

They attack from halfway and some slick passing from Adam Hastings, Matt Fagerson and Peter Horne sees the ball arrive with Stuart Hogg.

The Scotland captain injects his trademark pace to skip away from the tackles and race towards the 22. He draws his opposite man and puts Blair Kinghorn in for the score.

Kinghorn converts and early on the visitors are in charge.

George Horne is electric. In your first cap you'd maybe like an experienced ten outside you but he has Adam Hastings who is also making his first start. First international or not, your nine and ten need to go out and boss that game.

This fixture four years ago was the beginning of Finn Russell’s intentional cap, Tonight, another young Scotland fly-half makes his first start for his country. A huge night for Adam Hastings.

You can be absolutely certain that these big American forwards will be going after him early and often. His father is here somewhere. If he’s inherited the great man’s durability then he’ll be absolutely fine.
