  • FT: Glasgow 25-10 Munster - BBC Radio Scotland

  1. try

Try Ulster 11-23 Edinburghpublished at 56 mins

    Will Addison

It's been given, as you probably worked out from Peter Wright's muttered complaint.

Will Addison touches down as the officials decide there was no infringement.

  2. Postpublished at 55 mins

We're checking for some obstruction by - I think - Stuart McCloskey on Tom Brown...

  3. Try reviewpublished at 55 mins

    Ulster 6-23 Edinburgh

Ulster are over but we're checking with the TMO.

  4. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Ulster 6-23 Edinburgh

Remember the tackle Chris Paterson made on Ben Foden? Well, the one just put in by Dougie Fife on John Cooney was almost as good. The Ulster scrum-half looked for all the world like he was scoring. Still the pressure comes on, though.

  5. Glasgow 'need balance' to attackpublished at 57 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 22-3 Munster

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland sevens captain on Radio Scotland

Glasgow weathered the storm from Munster at the start of the half. It's difficult because you don't want to stifle the attacking intent - we've seen length-of-the-field tries on countless occasions at Scotstoun - but it's about playing the smart game. It's the 54th minute, you're 22-3 up, make them play from deep.

Has this Munster team offered that much in attack? I don't think so.

  6. Beirne on for Munster debutpublished at 54 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 22-3 Munster

Tadgh Beirne makes his long-awaited Munster debut off the bench. What a player this bloke is. Voted best in the league last term. He's got the lot.

  7. converted try

Converted try Ulster 6-23 Edinburghpublished at 49 mins

    Simon Hickey

Five out of five for Hickey.

  8. try

Try Ulster 6-21 Edinburghpublished at 48 mins

    James Johnstone

    Goodness me, that was bonkers!

Ulster break into the Edinburgh 22 with a brilliant Jordi Murphy carry, then cough up possession. Away go Edinburgh. The ball goes through the hands of Nel, Ritchie Scott, Johnstone, then Kinghorn, who breaks the frayed Ulster defence and batters into open prairie.

Kinghorn has options left and right, but takes on the cover defence himself. He's brought down, but his off-load from the ground is perfect. Johnstone runs onto it and cruises over. Great try.

  9. Hastings 'needs to work on game-management'published at 46 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 22-3 Munster

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Adam Hastings needs to manage the game slightly better. That error he made at the start of the second half, Glasgow retained the kick-off and he was under real pressure and put a kick in. He just needs to learn that you're 22-0 up, keep the pressure on.

  10. Carbery on for Munsterpublished at 46 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 22-3 Munster

After that early penalty, Munster have managed to put some phases together and have finally spent some time in the Warriors' half.

Ireland fly-half Joey Carbery is now on for the visitors after his somewhat controversial switch from Leinster. Can he inspire a comeback?

  11. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Ulster 6-16 Edinburgh

Powerful start to the second half from Ulster. Good off-loading and dynamic carrying up the flanks. Simon Hickey got absolutely steamrolled by Nick Timoney.

Edinburgh have mad a substitution - Bill Mata off, Luek Crosbie on.

  12. Kick-offpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

    Ulster 6-16 Edinburgh

And we're off and running again in Belfast too.

Excellent first-half displays from both Scottish teams.

  13. Penalty Glasgow Warriors 22-3 Munsterpublished at 42 mins

    JJ Hanrahan

We're back under way at Scotstoun and JJ Hanrahan has popped over an early penalty from a scrum infringement to get Munster off the board.

  14. 'Physical specimen' Bennett will be missedpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

    HT: Ulster 6-16 Edinburgh

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Mark Bennett opened the Ulster defence up a couple of times. Defensively, he's very solid, very strong, he's a real athlete, a physical specimen.

That knee injury is a tough one to rehab. The physios can't do much after a certain time. You've not really involved in training. If it is the knee again and he has to come back again, he's got the age and professionalism to do it, it's just whether his body will allow him to do it.

  15. 'Pyrgos a calming influence for Edinburgh'published at 20:38 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

    HT: Ulster 6-16 Edinburgh

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Last year, Edinburgh used Nathan Fowles and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne at scrum-half, but bringing Pyrgos in, they've got a really steady, quality player. A guy that brings maturity, game-management, he's a calming influence. Having him alongside Hickey, who is new to the league, helps.

If you've got a good full-back and a good nine, the forwards know their hard work is going to be rewarded wit good service and your last line of defence is strong.

  16. More injury strife for Bennettpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

    HT: Ulster 6-16 Edinburgh

The biggest concern for Edinburgh? The sight of Mark Bennett being stretchered from the field.

Remember, the centre was out for 10 months with a knee injury last year - his second knee reconstruction - and we really hope this one isn't nearly so serious.

  17. Glasgow charging clearpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

    HT: Glasgow Warriors 22-0 Munster

It's been all Glasgow in the first half - and the stats bear that out.

The hosts have made 238m to Munster's 92m.

    They've had 71% possession and 85% territory.

    18 tackles to 86.

    Five defenders beaten to none.

    One penalty conceded to seven.

  18. HALF-TIME Ulster 6-16 Edinburghpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

Simon Hickey faints to drop a goal, makes a break, then sends Viliame Mata thundering towards the try-line. He's brilliantly cut down, though, and WP Nel knocks on from the base of the ruck, bringing the half to an end.

Edinburgh have withstood a lot of pressure against a very dangerous Ulster team and a 10-point half-time lead in Belfast is not to be sniffed at.

Simon Hickey has kicked three penalties and converted Tom Brown's try - an excellent team maneuver.

For Ulster, John Cooney slotted two penalties of his own.

  19. Edinburgh look to finish with a flourishpublished at 40 mins

    Ulster 6-16 Edinburgh

The clock is red in Belfast where Edinburgh are battering into Ulster's 22 in search of a final blow before the break.

  20. HALF-TIME Glasgow Warriors 22-0 Munsterpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

A power-laden first half from the home team. They've bullied and bamboozled Munster and will probably feel they should have more than a three-try lead.

Callum Gibbins, Stuart Hogg and Adam Ashe are the scorers. Munster have hardly been out of their own half - the territory stats are 85%-15% in Glasgow's favour.
