So, a fine afternoon for Scotland, who run in eight tries and 33 second-half points to sink Fiji in their second autumn Test.

A special day for hat-trick scorer Tommy Seymour, Adam Hastings, who scored his first Scotland try, and Sam Skinner, who was named man of the match on his debut. Some cracking individual performances in a very impressive second-half showing.

Gregor Townsend says Scotland will need to be better again next week, when the mighty Springboks roll into town.

"South Africa are a better team than Fiji, they play Rugby Championship, in the top five-six in the world and came close to doing the double over New Zealand [this summer]," he said.

"They bring different threats, they’re playing a traditional South African game which is very strong ball-carriers, huge set-piece, excellent defence, and they have players dotted around their team who can score tries out of nothing, like we saw when they took on New Zealand.

"We have to rise to that challenge of playing one of the best teams in the world but I believe this squad can do that. They’ve shown in the last couple of seasons that when the challenge gets bigger, we get better."

"He did very well. The game he plays for his club and the type of player he is suits what we want to do – a decision-maker, someone that is fit, with skills that can move the ball, can carry and get around the park," Townsend added.

"Jamie Ritchie was outstanding in the back-row. A lot of work went into that performance – a lot of big tackles put in on very big men, we did manage to get a few of their off-loads back on our side. Overall I was pleased with what we did defensively."

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend on BBC Radio Scotland: "Obviously delighted. Fiji were always going to be a tough opponent and we saw they could score from anywhere. We stuck to our task, got a grip of the game and then they came back into the game and were leading.

"To stick to what we felt was going to work was pleasing and the players built throughout the game, either through our defensive performance, where we kept them to zero points in the second half, or through our set-piece, where we mauled and scrummaged really well, and also through our phase play.

"The scoreboard is a marker of how the game’s going but I felt we had the upper hand in the first half. We played a lot of rugby on their line and got two yellow cards [for Fiji] and a try disallowed that I cant believe was disallowed. But Fiji did get two tries and were leading.

"That sometimes, the players will question that, what are we doing, is it working because we're not winning but the pressure ended up telling. We kept on with that detailed approach around the set-piece which narrowed up the Fiji defence in the second half and allowed guys like Tommy Seymour and others to score tries."

Scotland centre Alex Dunbar on BBC Radio Scotland: "We knew they'd come at us early on, they're big boys, they hit hard, we weren't perfect early on but we wore them down and the subs made a great impact.

"We spoke about how they feed off turnovers and we made mistakes and they got tries. We spoke about tightening up and doing our basics better at half-time.

"South Africa next week will be a huge test. They're going well and they're a big, physical team. We'll take the positives from this and build on it."

"International rugby feels a lot quicker than the English Premiership. Fiji have awesome individuals and played at a high tempo.

"I enjoy the roles in the line-outs in the second-row but you get a bit more freedom in the back-row, so it was nice to get the opportunity to play there."

An excellent victory for Scotland in their second autumn Test. They've blown away a very dangerous Fijian side in considerable style. Gregor Townsend's man racked up 33 points in a dominant second half, scoring eight tries and six conversions in total.

Tommy Seymour ran in three of them as he climbed to fourth in the all-time Scottish try-scorer chart.

Allan Dell, Fraser Brown, Sean Maitland, Jamie Ritchie and Adam Hastings also crossed.

After their wastefulness and frustration in Cardiff last week, this will be a welcome tonic.
