  2. Scots 'don't want to play a negative game'published at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2018

    FT: Scotland 14-9 Argentina

Scotland hooker Fraser Brown told BBC Scotland: "It was real hard conditions out there, the ball was very greasy and there was a lot of kicking, a lot of pressure.

"It was pleasing in the end. We maybe didn't manage that middle period of the game particularly well, but the bench had a really good impact and controlled that last 10 minutes pretty well.

"Even in these conditions, we don't want to go into our shells and play a negative game. Teams tighten up a little bit defensively because they think you're going to play tight. There are still lots of opportunities to attack - we just didn't execute well.

"It's great to bounce back after last week, particularly in these conditions, and Argentina were going to be fired up for the last game of their season."

  3. Scotland 'did enough to win' - Townsendpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2018

    FT: Scotland 14-6 Argentina

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend was pleased with his side's character in defence, as much as he praised the communication and execution of Stuart Hogg in spotting the space and creating the decisive try for Sean Maitland.

"A couple of times in the second half our defensive line was breached but we got back in numbers to stop Argentina scoring tries," Townsend told BBC Sport. "I am impressed the team found a way to win.

"We were tested today. Argentina kept the ball for a lot of phases and they played well. The conditions meant it wasn't going to be a game won off passing the ball wide.

"We didn't have our best first half admittedly, but I felt second half we brought more energy to the game and did enough to win."

  4. Pumas 'in a good position' despite defeatpublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2018

    FT: Scotland 14-6 Argentina

Captain Pablo Matera accentuated the positives for Argentina, despite a fifth straight Test defeat.

"It was a really tough game," he said. "Either of the teams could have won today. It is a tough way to finish our season but next year is an important year and I think we are going to take a lot from this game. I am sure it is going to help us become a better team next year.

"I think we are in a good position [approaching the World Cup]. We have had a lot of growth this year and we are improving a lot. Our way of playing is a lot better than last year, and we are going to keep improving and be a stronger team."

  5. 'International rugby is about winning' - Laidlawpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2018

    FT: Scotland 14-6 Argentina

Scotland scrum-half Greig Laidlaw on BBC One:

"I felt we had control during the game and did enough to win it. The conditions dictated how we played. International rugby is about winning, and we have beaten a strong Argentina team, so we are delighted with the win.

"You have got to be patient on days like that - don't try to attack too early and play in the right areas. The forwards put us in the right areas and it was a great call from Hoggy for the try, to go to the short-side, and we got our reward."

When Scotland made six changes up front, I thought 'they have got to be careful here'. This is a battle-hardened Argentina team, but ultimately that Sean Maitland try was the difference. Argentina should have won the game today. Scotland got away with one.

Argentina are a very difficult team to play against and it has always been that way. Scotland found a way to win the game. They turned around losing last week and for me, it was all about any win today.

Dangerous times for Scotland, as Argentina flanker Rodrigo Bruni breaks away deep into the hosts' half.

But again the Pumas can't hold on to it at the crucial moment, and Scotland are off the hook once more.

That's what Argentina can do. It's just a hard line from Boffelli, exposing WP Nel on the guard position in defence. Sanchez took the ball up flat and the slower Scottish forwards couldn't stop Boffelli.

  15. Penalty - Scotland 14-9 Argentina (Sanchez)published at 74 mins

No relief after all. A big shove from the Pumas, and they earn a penalty right in front of the posts.

Nicolas Sanchez opts to take the points, rather than go for seven, and Argentina are back within five heading into the final five minutes.

That Sean Maitland try ensures Scotland have scored in all of their last 26 Tests since a 21-16 win against Japan on their summer tour of 2016, when all the points came from the boot.

  18. Missed penalty - Scotland 14-6 Argentina (Sanchez)published at 69 mins

Nicolas Sanchez,, usually so reliable from the kicking tee, is having a bit of a shocker today. That's three out of five he's missed now, and 12 points in all that have gone begging for the Pumas.

Scotland kept going right to start with. They looked like they were going to go back left, but Hogg makes the late call, sees the mismatch up the right and screams at Laidlaw. All the Argentine defenders were in the ruck.

    Try - Scotland 14-6 Argentina (Maitland)published at 65 mins

The line-out drive didn't come to much, but Scotland recycled well and suddenly there's an overlap on the right flank. Stuart Hogg spots it, Greig Laidlaw switches it right to the full-back and his perfectly-timed pass sees Sean Maitland steaming over in the right corner.

Laidlaw gives the conversion an almighty whack from the touchline, but it is just short.
