Referee Wayne Barnes' new facial hair has been catching eyes on social media.

To such an extent that someone has created a Twitter account devoted to his beard. Top marks for their first punny tweet.

It is great by George North because he never gave up the ghost, but it's a tremendous mistake by Yoann Huget.

The French winger will want to pick himself up as quickly as possible, but Wales are right back in it.

  3. 'A great finish'published at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2019

    France 16-14 Wales

    Paul O'Connell
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

It was a great piece of advantage by Wayne Barnes because it was such a bad kick.

You wouldn't have thought anything would come of it. In fairness to George North, it wasn't an easy pick-up. That was a great finish.

Converted try - France 16-14 Walespublished at 52 mins

    George North (con Anscombe)

    One for the blooper reel!

Yoann Huget looks to the skies in despair. The France wing was chasing back to gather a kick under no pressure.

But as he slides in to collect, the ball slips out of his grasp and slithers into the path of George North to dive over.

That is right up there with Clement Poitrenaud in the 2004 Heineken Cup final.

Extras for Gareth Anscombe and Wales are slap-bang back in the game.

  5. Replacementpublished at 50 mins

    France 16-7 Wales

    The first changes.

Adam Beard is replaced by Cory Hill in the Wales second row.

Uini Atonio, possibly hurting after a big hit from Ross Moriarty, is replaced by Demba Bamba.

The last time Wales were at least 16 points behind at half-time was over two years ago when they were losing 20-3 in Australia in a match they lost 32-8.

It is nearly three years since Wales were so far behind at the break of a Six Nations match (0-16 v England in 2016). Wales recovered in the second half to lose 25-21. This was also the last time they failed to score a first half point.

    Game on?

The Stade de France crowd is certainly a little edgier than it was as it basked in the hosts' 16-0 half-time lead.

Josh Adams has looked dangerous and there was great support there. It's a very good try and Wales are back in it.

That is exactly what Wales needed. Josh Adams changes angle and puts Tomos Williams through on the inside.

  10. try

Converted try - France 16-7 Walespublished at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2019

    Tomos Williams (con Anscombe)

    A try out of nowhere!

Actually that does Josh Adams a disservice. The Wales wing cuts inside, picking on the much bigger, much slower Paul Willemse and bursts through a gap close to the breakdown.

Superb support line from Tomos Williams is rewarded with a simple scoring pass.

And Gareth Anscombe lands the extras.

Nine points in it and the Stade de France crowd are getting twitchy.

    France 16-0 Wales

    Paul Grayson
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 live

Wales have clearly changed their kicking plan because the first kick from Gareth Anscombe was blasted a little longer down field to get France playing from deeper.

  13. Postpublished at 44 mins

The Moscow State Circus say don't call us Ken, we'll call you.

The Sheriff of Carmarthen and Wales hooker Ken Owens juggles and drops as he takes a flat pass off scrum-half Tomos Williams.

Another needless Welsh error and France have a chance to made good on their getaway.

  14. Postpublished at 42 mins

    France 16-0 Wales

Wales attempt to get a toehold, but Damian Penaud gobbles up Tomos Williams' over-hit box-kick.

    That is better.

Williams makes amends as he tackles Camille Lopez in the act of a line-clearing kick.

Knock-on. Wales with possession in the middle of the pitch, 40 metres out.

Rugby is a simple game. When you have the ball, you can win games.

That's the best first half France have played for a long time. They put massive pressure on every ball. It was a fantastic first half from the French.

Matt: Anscombe with the worst half of rugby by a Welsh number 10 I’ve ever seen. Gatland has to take him off at half-time. Can't kick for goal, touch kicking is shocking and decision making atrocious.

Jade: C'mon Wales I know you’re better than this.

Matthew Richards: Masterclass in how to play in the rain by France in the first half, now to see if the fitness is there.
