England and Scotland played out a thriller at Twickenham but it was Wales' day after head coach Warren Gatland bowed out with a final Grand Slam.

England coach Eddie Jones, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We had control of the game, gave Scotland easy points and that got them back into the game and we failed to regain control. In the end our finishers did a great job and to escape with a draw was a really good lesson.

"It is a reoccurring thing for us. It is not a one off, it happened against South Africa and Wales, our inability when the opposition poses something that we are not comfortable with to adjust quickly but we can fix it.

"Obviously I am concerned but the great thing is we know the problem and can fix it. It will take time to fix it. We have time to do that [before the World Cup], 100%.

"It comes back to a combination of factors - clarity, communication on the field, individual composure. They are all areas we need to improve in."

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I am very proud of my team's character, skill and fitness levels to go at England when everything was against us. They are disappointed after putting in that effort but we get a trophy to keep for another year so that's something tangible.

"There was disbelief at half-time. England were playing with real power and pace and were really hard to handle but we started to knock England behind the gainline.

"But the reality was we just wanted to win the second half. You don't win from 31-0 down we wanted to win back some respect but then the momentum swung, we took our chances and the confidence went from England to us."

England head coach Eddie Jones speaking to ITV: "Unfortunately, it's a reoccurring problem we have got. It was similar in the first test against South Africa in June. We had a big lead and then we lost control of the game.

"Today, we should have been ahead by more and then couldn't get control back. It's not something you can fix easily. It's something that is going to take us digging deep into the team psyche, but we'll be ready by the World Cup.

"It's a great lesson for us and I would rather have these games now than at the World Cup. We played some brilliant rugby in the first half but the game should have been put to bed, and we just lacked that ruthlessness. When the game gets easy we get seduced by the scoreboard."

Scotland coach Gregor Townsend: "It is amazing how things change in sport when you get the momentum behind you and the opposition doubt themselves. We took the game to them and scored 31 points in the second half alone. That is an amazing achievement.

"When I look at the squad I see real disappointment. I really feel for them but I am really proud of what the team achieved today, against history, against the odds, against what people thought we would do. It was incredible. It would have been really nice to have kept them out at the end but to get a draw, score 38 points at Twickenham and keep the trophy - we will be happier tonight than we were earlier.

"Going into the World Cup we are much more positive. Players stepped up. players who have hardly played in the Six Nations up to today. When we put that effort in we can achieve really good things."

What an end to the tournament, but it was Wales' day after cruising to the Grand Slam in Cardiff.

England captain Owen Farrell, speaking to ITV: "It shocked us when they got a bit of momentum and we gave that to them, me more than anyone at times. We got in a momentum rut and couldn't get out of it. That is in our control more than we thought it was and that is what we have got to get better at.

"The start seems a long time ago. To go in at half-time with the score as it was was pleasing. Rugby is a game of momentum and Scotland were good when they got it in that second half.

"They played some good rugby when they got some momentum. They punished us. The disappointing thing is we fed that."

Fred: Farrell has shown today that he is not a captain. He lost his head after gifting Scotland 2 easy tries.

Probably not the result Scotland wanted but Stuart McInally still looks pretty happy to have his hands on that Cup.

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell speaking on ITV:

"I'm gutted. At half-time everyone would have written Scotland off. For us to come out and have a second half like that shows the character the boys have. I'm just so disappoointed we didn't manage to finish it off at the end.

"The first half we got caught off guard then in the second half we had nothing to lose and we played our rugby. We played good Scottish rugby the second half.

"There were a lot of injuries but the boys who have filled in have been outstanding. The whole campaign has been frustrating. We've had close games and not played at our best sometimes. But It's a good way to finish with the Calcutta Cup back in Scotland."

It is incredible to even be disappointed with a draw when you were 31-0 down. Scotland dug themselves out of a massive hole.

I do not know how to feel. Elated or gutted?

Scotland retain the Calcutta Cup but their 36 year wait for a win at Twickenham goes on.

England strolled into a 31-0 lead in a dominant first half, but Scotland produced a brilliant second half display to turn it around and take a seven point lead with four minutes remaining.

But George Ford saved England's blushes right at the death and it ended all square in the highest scoring draw of international history.

Incredible stuff.
