    Chris Harris

Pick and go, pick and go. Scotland keep the ball alive, with Hamish Watson and Ryan Wilson prominent, and here comes Chris Harris running a blistering line to crash through a couple of French giants.

Greig Laidlaw knocks the home side into a three-point lead.

Lazy knock-on from the French and Scotland get numbers up the pitch at a rapid rate, with Blair Kinghorn putting in a great chase. Penalty. Kicked to touch.

Its classic France, they can pick and go, pick and go, but they seem to just get bored after about four or five phases. There’s spaces everywhere and that’s where Watson and Barclay are doing well. They’re getting in there, turning ball over but you just want Scotland to make more of that turnover ball.

Blair Kinghorn has Stuart Hogg inside him and it looks like a try if the pass is complete. It's not. Did Kinghorn need to go for the showy spin with his team-mate just a few metres off his shoulder?

Every time BBC Radio Scotland commentator John Beattie says Charles Ollivon, I think he's asking for a Vol-au-Vent...

Yes, there's not much going on at the moment as both sides tread water in the middle of the pitch.

    Scotland 10-14 France

Scotland are dragging France one way, then another but they are not making any real headway.

Another poor moment from George Turner as he is pulled up for a blatantly squint line-out throw into the hands of the first man.

  8. Thomson concernpublished at 43 mins

    Scotland 10-14 France

Uh-oh. Is that Blade Thomson's Scotland debut over? The number eight, who missed a large chunk of last season with a serious concussion, goes off after a bang to the head.

A huge cheer greets John Barclay coming off the bench.

  9. Kick-offpublished at 41 mins

    Scotland 10-14 France

Scotland try to get something going from the re-start but a sloppy pass from Gordon Reid halts the momentum almost immediately.

    The teams are back out.

A really big second half coming up. Scotland have not been much of a threat but Finn Russell is always capable of pulling something out of the bag, as we saw with his clever pass for the Sean Maitland score.

I’m looking at that 40 minutes and I’m seeing a massive amount of tenacity; Scottish players in over French players, on to ball, slowing ball up, making the French work which you have to do against French teams. You could see in the last 10 minutes France were just waiting on half time.

Line-out ball has been a problem for Scotland. "A dog's dinner at times," sighs BBC pundit Peter Wright. Hooker George Turner has been very busy in defence but his throwing needs to pick up after the interval.

"The scrum has been pretty good," offers Wright.

The try came from a really strong scrum that put France on the back foot, then Blair Kinghorn put the pressure on and got up from the tackle. It’s a great time to score and I would say Scotland deserved something out of this half better than a penalty

Well, that Sean Maitland try has given the home fans something to cheer and suddenly we have a game on our hands for the second half.

  15. try

Try Scotland 10-14 Francepublished at 39 mins

    Sean Maitland

A strong srcum puts France under pressure and Blair Kinghorn intercepts to send Chris Harris scurrying forward. The centre is stopped short but the ball is recycled well, with Finn Russell eventually finding Sean Maitland with a lovely, long pass.

Greig Laidlaw skelps over the extras to draw the hosts within four points right on half-time.

    Scotland 3-14 France

Finn Russell stabs a promising kick in behind the French and Sean Maitland improvises well to keep it in play, clawing the ball into the path of Stuart Hogg. However, a promising situation fizzles out as the full-back fails to gather at his feet.

  17. 'Field position a problem for Scotland'published at 13:49 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

Field position has been a problem for Scotland. They’ve been playing a lot of rugby but not in the areas of the park they need to and I think that’s maybe why they're kicking as much. For me, I would focus on trying to put length on the kicks to see if they can either nail France down or they kick out badly

Another mistake as George Turner overthrows from a line-out halfway into French territory. The crowd are getting nothing to feed on here.

    Scotland 3-14 France

Murrayfield has gone pretty quiet as we have a break in play for some medical attention. Scotland are under pressure and making too many errors to get back into the game. France are comfortable and haven't had to work too hard for their tries.
