    Ben Youngs (con Owen Farrell)

That's more like it from England!

Ellis Genge has carried brilliantly since he came on and he makes the yards for the hosts to build from.

England surge forward before Kyle Sinckler smashes into the blue line with the sort of running line a centre would be proud of.

Ben Youngs dots over from close range and Owen Farrell kicks the conversion.

Mark Wilson is the homecoming king for England.

The Newcastle flanker, who is spending next season on loan at Sale after the Falcons' relegation last term, made more metres (39) than any other England forward in the first half. He is also his team's top tackler, with 18.

Rob: England's attack is missing George Ford. Has he now earned the 10 shirt with Farrell at 12?

Gareth: I have this strange feeling that Eddie Jones has absolutely roasted this team in training this week which is why they look knackered tonight. This is probably the 2nd string World Cup team for England who will play Tonga and USA in the space of four days.

  10. The story of the halfpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 6 September 2019

    HT: England 9-0 Italy

It's definitely been an evening for the purists.

Both defences have been on top as both attacks show signs of pre-tournament rust with a number of individual errors.

Nonetheless, England are leading and they will be happy to go to Japan with three wins from four.

  11. 'No excuse for sloppiness'published at 20:38 British Summer Time 6 September 2019

    HT: Italy 9-0 England

    Paul Grayson
Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live

We are always guessing a little bit as to how heavily loaded the players have been with training But nevertheless there is no excuse with being sloppy with your attacking shape. I'm not sure how much it has been Italy hustling England, but it has not been good so far.

    Chris Jones
BBC rugby union correspondent at St James' Park

When they are hot, you have a feeling that England could go to Japan and annihilate some teams, but when the opposition have their tails up you worry about their ability to adapt and roll with the punches.

Oh wow... the crowd are not enjoying that decision to go for goal.

Newcastle is not afraid of making its feelings known.

  16. Postpublished at 39 mins

Owen Farrell points to the posts and the home crowd boo his decision.

I think they were hoping for more expansive rugby than what they've seen.

England have a penalty just inside the Italian half as the visitors are penalised for being offside and Owen Farrell has a decision to make.

It's just been one of those halves.

  20. Replacementpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 6 September 2019

    England 6-0 Italy

A trio of changes for England. Are they all tactical rather than forced by injury? I think so.

No sign of any limping as second row Joe Launchbury heads off along with props Joe Marler and Dan Cole.

Charlie Ewels, Ellis Genge and Kyle Sinckler are all on.
