Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill speaking on BT Sport: "We came with a plan, we had to stick to the plan. We controlled the game in that second half and it's probably the best we've played.

"There's a huge amount of pride in what we've done today. We've put ourselves in a great position to qualify. Our fans are chanting our name and this is a club that's building slowly.

Edinburgh move back to the top of Pool 5 courtesy of their third ever Champions Cup victory on French soil.

They sit on 19 points which has been enough to qualify in each of the past five seasons. However, nothing is guaranteed yet and we'll know more after tomorrow's fixtures.

Victory over Vern Cotter's Montpellier at Murrayfield on Friday will confirm their progression and seal top spot, and a losing bonus point could well be enough to progress as runners-up.

Edinburgh become the first Scottish side to win at the Stade Mayol and only the third side ever in European competition to do so.

They were excellent value for their win. They have played better this season but had to negotiate a tough opening period when they fell behind after just 85 seconds.

Their response to Guilhem Guirado's try was superb, Darcy Graham scoring brilliantly. Facundo Isa crossed to re-establish the home side's lead, but once Blair Kinghorn scored early in the second half Richard Cockerill's side always looked in control.

James Johnstone's brilliant try sealed the win, with Julian Savea's try too little too late for Toulon.

Referee Wayne Barnes blows his whistle and that will be that.

Bill Mata has been awarded the man of the match award and it's hard to argue with that. The big number eight has been at his majestic best.

Jaco van der Walt, Darcy Graham and James Johnstone deserve to be in the conversation too as they have been excellent.

That Savea try has just checked Edinburgh's momentum a little and thoughts of a bonus point have now made may for the more pragmatic aim of holding on to what they've got.

They're managing the game well, keeping possession and sucking the life out of this game.

You probably wouldn't have predicted this but Edinburgh are hunting a bonus-point clinching fourth try here.

They are well on top, Bill Mata is running riot, and Toulon look broken.

Jaco van der Walt, playing arguably his best game in an Edinburgh shirt, breaks through again but his inside pass just fails to find his support runners with the try-line beckoning.

What do Toulon have left to offer?

Henry Pyrgos owes Grant Gilchrist an enormous apology.

The number nine throws a long, looping pass towards Gilchrist, allowing Mathieu Bastareaud plenty of time to line-up the Scotland lock and absolutely demolish him in the tackle.

'Hospital pass' barely does that justice.

Edinburgh almost get the score that would take them within touching distance of victory.

Brilliant hands from James Johnstone and Blair Kinghorn sets Darcy Graham free.

He races towards the line with Henry Pyrgos in support. If he can find the scrum-half it's a certain score but the winger delays the pass a split-second too long and Pyrgos is unable to gather.

Darcy Graham takes down a rampaging Mathieu Bastareaud, Bill Mata makes a brilliant turnover and Chris Dean puts in a lovely kick to the corner to pin Toulon back near their own line.

Jaco van der Walt seems to have nailed down the Edinburgh number 10 shirt ahead od Simon Hickey and he's playing with great zip to his play here.

He crashes through the tackles of Guilhem Guirado and Emerick Setian to break free from the Edinburgh 22. He fires a great pass on the run to Chris Dean who looks to chip through for Duhan ver der Merwe. If the ball stays in play the big man is away. Alas it trickles over the touchline.

The Edinburgh scrum puts the squeeze on, win the penalty and Jaco van der Walt does the business from the tee to give the Scottish side a six-point lead.

Blair Kinghorn launches a booming kick deep into Toulon territory, the ball holding up just before the try-line.

Fly-half Anthony Belleau looks to run it back but Kinghorn is flying up to apply some pressure, Belleau throws the pass forward and Edinburgh have an attacking scrum in a prime position.
