  3. Huge 40 to comepublished at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2019

    HT: Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

It's been a great match so far.

The home crowd were whipped up into a frenzy before the match and within 90 seconds their side had claimed the initiative through a Guilhem Guirado try.

Darcy Graham's touchdown was just reward for a terrific Edinburgh response, but Facundo Isa's try ensured Toulon went in ahead at the break.

A huge 40 minutes to come. It's an old cliché, but the next score will be crucial.

  4. Half-timepublished at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2019

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

Van Der Walt pushes his effort from 40m just wide and the home side go in four points up at the break.

  5. Dazzling Darcypublished at 40mins

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

What a find Darcy Graham has been for Edinburgh.

The former Hawick man has already notched a brilliant try and he bursts into the line again, shrugging off the tackles of far bigger men and taking his side into the danger zone.

Toulon are done for going off their feet at the breakdown and Jaco Van Der Walt will have a shot at goal at the end of the half.

  6. Wide openpublished at 36 mins

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

This game is really open and that could benefit Edinburgh later in the game as they believe they are the fitter side.

A brilliant offload from Blair Kinghorn sets James Johnstone free. He finds Jamie Ritchie who carries well but Edinburgh can't recycle and the scrum is awarded to Toulon.

  7. Chance gonepublished at 34 mins

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

The rolling maul is repelled and Edinburgh look to go wide.

Jaco Van Der Walt is running sideways looking for options, Mathieu Bastareaud goes in with the tackle and the Edinburgh fly-half loses the ball forward.

  8. Big callpublished at 33 mins

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

Edinburgh are awarded a penalty that is well within Jaco Van Der Walt's range but instead they kick to the corner.

    5m line-out to come....

  9. Duhan gases Savea....sort ofpublished at 30 mins

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

There can't be too many wingers in Europe in form as good as that shown lately by Duhan Van Der Merwe.

The big South African collects the ball wide on the left and leaves Julian Savea for dead. However, just as he is bearing down on the try-line the whistle blows.

Replays show he stepped into touch about four times. A glimpse of his danger though.

  10. Time for a breatherpublished at 26 mins

    Toulon 12-8 Edinburgh

This has been a breathless affair so far, like two heavyweight boxers trading blow after blow.

Edinburgh do not look panicked and have responded well to conceding that second Toulon try but Grant Gilchrist spills the ball and all 30 players might be excused for being relieved at the break for the scrum.

The line-out is taken safely, and after an initial shunt backwards from the Edinburgh pack, the Toulon forwards rumble towards the line.

Number eight Raphael Lakafia is stopped right on the line but the reprieve for the visitors is temporary as flanker Facundo Isa barrels over in the next phase.

Anthony Belleau adds the extras and the home side are on top again.

  12. Bubbling up nicelypublished at 20 mins

    Toulon 5-8 Edinburgh

This is developing into a cracking European battle.

Edinburgh looked to have wrestled control of the game after a blistering start from the hosts but since Darcy Graham's try the three-times champions have raised the tempo again.

Another line-out 5m from the Edinburgh line....

  13. try

    Darcy Graham

Edinburgh have weathered the early storm and hit back with a superb try.

From a line-out between the Toulon 10m and 22, Hamish Watson and Stuart McInally make good yardage with some big carries.

The ball is whipped back to where it came from, Jamie Ritchie momentarily thinks he's Bill Mata and pops a stunning offload to Darcy Graham who runs straight at full-back Mathieu Smaili, puts him on his backside and dives over in the corner.

  14. Penalty: Toulon 5-3 Edinburghpublished at 10 mins

    Jaco van der Walt

    Just what Edinburgh needed.

Bastareaud is pinged at the breakdown and Jaco van der Walt strokes a confident penalty straight between the uprights.

That should settle some Scottish nerves.

  15. Mismatch in the centrepublished at 8 mins

    Toulon 5-0 Edinburgh

Edinburgh survive another Toulon attack when Anthony Belleau's kick through has too much on it and goes dead.

The battle at 13 appears to be a physical mismatch - the hulking figure of Mathieu Bastareaud up against the diminutive James Johnstone. The Scotland Sevens international doesn't shirk the tough stuff, but he's got his hands full with the Frenchman today.

  16. French forcepublished at 5 mins

    Toulon 5-0 Edinburgh

On the face it of it they have nothing to play for but Toulon have started this game like men possessed, roared on by a passionate home support.

They force Edinburgh into another infringement around the ruck, again kick to the corner and again will test Edinburgh's defence.

  17. try

    Guilhem Guirado

What a nightmare start for Edinburgh!

From the line-out deep in Edinburgh territory Toulon hammer at the Edinburgh line through Mathieu Bastareaud and when the ball is recycled hooker Guilhem Guirado is pushed over for the try.

  18. Shaky start for Edinburghpublished at 1 min

    Toulon 0-0 Edinburgh

Grant Gilchrist can't gather the kick-off, Bill Mata is penalised at the subsequent ruck and Toulon kick the penalty to the corner.

    Early test for the visitors.

    Here we go!

Toulon fly-half Anthony Belleau gets us under way at a raucous Stade Mayol.

  20. Cotter's Montpellier edge aheadpublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2019

    Toulon v Edinburgh (17:30)

There was an outside chance that Edinburgh could have guaranteed a spot in the quarter-finals with victory at Toulon today. However, events elsewhere in Pool 5 have ensured their fate will not be decided today.

Vern Cotter's Montpellier destroyed Newcastle 45-8 at Altrad Stadium earlier today to move top of the pool, one point clear of Edinburgh. The result also confirmed that Toulon can not qualify for the next stage.

The two sides meet at Murrayfield on Friday to determine who will top the group, but Edinburgh know a win today will put them in a great position to progress.
