It’s been a weak point of England’s the ball over the top. The Wallabies got good possession, Hodge hurled it over the top and Daly had to make a decision. Mike Brown would have buried Koroibete as soon as he got it.
Marika Koroibete (con Lealiifano)
You have to say that it is brilliant from Australia, more cutting edge than a surgeon's scalpel.
Henry Slade sees the Aussies have men wide and attempts to cut them off at the pass.
But Reece Hodge sees his rush out of defence and floats the ball over the top. Jordan Petaia flips inside to Marika Koroibete, who stands up Elliot Daly and then hits the pedal to leave him behind and get into the corner.
Christian Lealiifano lands the conversion and we have a one-point ball game...

Is Kyle Sinckler ever chilled? He seems to be permanently wound up. Think I'd deliberately get his order wrong if I was serving him just to see his reaction!

Kyle: Brilliant first half. For England to keep Australia tryless is some effort as they have looked dangerous throughout. Ridiculous that Australia are running the ball in their own 22. They are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this.

Australia will be relieved to be just eight points down after a strange, frenetic half where England took control without truly having to hit top gear. Both sides putting the ball through hand, Australia from places where that doesn't always make sense.

Daniel John: They seriously need to sort this out in rugby. The amount of time wasted either in scrums or taking kicks is actually NFL like. That’s five minutes it’s taken to do either. Just doesn’t make good for watching. Half the game isn’t even in play.
Gerard Boyd: I had forgotten the joys of endless reset scrums. Must be someway to end this burning up playing time.
Jon Dunthorne: These shambles of scrums are spoiling the spectacle here!

You can be focused and get on with the physicality of the front row, but if a player isn’t, it can be a weakness. I think the Aussies have targeted Sinckler, but so far he’s done well.

Samu Kerevi has been the stand-out centre so far in the Rugby World Cup having carried more times, beaten more defenders and made more metres than any other midfielder in the pool stages.
England have had their hands full with the Queensland Reds man hitting up nine times (second-highest total in the Australia ranks) and gaining 32 metres (third highest).

Yes and I think they are probably costing themselves some wasted energy. England have a front five superior to Australia's off the bench and that will play its part.
It is a plan that might back fire on Australia.
There is a bit of history between Sinckler and the Australian pack. Last autumn the Quins prop was picked up on the ref's microphone calling the Aussies "snitches" after Kurtley Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper were dropped for the match for bring late-night visitors back to the team hotel. Which ignited the scuffle above...

England had that blitz of two tries, but either side they have imposed a lot of pressure on Australia. Australia have self-destructed at kick-offs, one of the simpler parts of the game.

Oranges and plenty for both sides to chew on with them.
A good half for England, but they have a habit of choking second-half leads and Australia have a habit of chasing them down.
Christian Lealiifano
Over it goes.
England 17-6 Australia
Kyle Sinckler is bubbling. He is deeply unimpressed by the officiating of the scrum as Australia are awarded the penalty after he had hollered for touch judge Romain Poite to have a look at opposite number Scott Sio's body position.
Australia have opted for points from the penalty rather than go for the corner...
England 17-6 Australia
Manu Tuilagi is left chewing a flat slice of palm pie as Samu Kerevi steps and hands him off. Superb burst from the Aussie centre.
Almost too good for his support. He is isolated in the tackle, but just enough green and gold gets there to ensure Australia put-in to the scrum inside England's 22m.
Three minutes to the break. Australia would love a score to take back to the hutch...
England 17-6 Australia
"Relax and go away," says Jerome Garces after Billy Vunipola is dumped tackled by a combination of Michael Hooper and Silatolu Latu.
Did Hooper take him past the horizontal? No says Garces. The cat-calling England fans think differently as the replay appears on the big screen...
