The ball is spending a lot of time in the air tonight and you would have to say Edinburgh are edging the kicking battle so far.

Jaco van der Walt has put up a couple of high kicks and landed them right on the money, leaving the Bordeaux catchers no time to react before they are smashed.

Eroni Sau is fortunate not to be shown a yellow card as he crashes into a Bordeaux opponent who is up in the air catching a high ball.

The referee decides that the Edinburgh forward was not in control as he had bounced off an opponent first.

Edinburgh edge further in front as Jaco van der Walt puts it through the posts from distance. His third penalty success of the night.

Santiago Cordero collects Jaco van der Walt's high kick out of defence and is immediately caught by Edinburgh bodies.

Matt Scott one minute is so close to breaking through but is caught, Edinburgh retain possession and the inside centre makes a mess of his next chance and drops the ball to concede a scrum.

Edinburgh at last win a line-out, but a white hand comes out to slap it away and the home momentum is halted. At least they have the put-in at the scrum and they are able to exert some pressure.

Edinburgh may be flying the flag for Scottish rugby tonight, but it's fair to say it hasn't been a classic. However, it doesn't seem to have dampened the spirits of a healthy Murrayfield crowd.

Edinburgh are in front at the break, but some sloppy play at the re-start after that excellent Blair Kinghorn try has handed Bordeaux a lifeline just before the half-time whistle.

The visitors have looked the more adventurous, home coach Richard Cockerill justifiably looked frustrated at his side's late concession of those two penalties.

Within seconds, Matthieu Jalibert makes up for that miss with another careless penalty conceded by Pierre Schoeman's handling at a ruck.

From the kick-off, Bill Matta is caught holding on to the ball too long after a tackle and Bordeaux have a chance to make a quick reply.

But Matthieu Jalibert's kick comes off the face of the post and Edinburgh react quickly to clear.
