I don't think Edinburgh can change the way they're trying to play. They just need to keep making a concerted effort to be clinical and hold on to the ball. It's not like they're playing poorly, or that their game plan has been poor. They've just let go of the ball at key moments and it's cost them.

  2. Penalty Bordeaux 27-10 Edinburghpublished at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Matthieu Jalibert

Another line-out mishap for Glasgow and John Barclay is pinged for a no-arms tackle. Matthieu Jalibert extends the Bordeaux lead with a straightforward penalty.

  3. try

Try Bordeaux 24-10 Edinburghpublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Yann Lesgourgues

Valiant tackling is not enough as Semi Radrada again causes chaos with his power and vision.

Yann Lesgourgues, just on, is the man plunging over and Matthieu Jalibert knocks over another conversion.

A new front row for Edinburgh in one fell swoop as Sutherland, Willemse and Berghan are replaced by Schoeman, Cherry and Ceccarelli.

A penalty reprieve for Edinburgh after a TMO intervention and then some dogged defence thwarts the home side near the posts.

Some of the natives are starting to get a bit restless.

Wonderful phase of rugby. Bordeaux obviously have their tails up and the off-loads are coming, but Edinburgh were up in their faces and forced the interception. It's a great finish from Duhan van der Merwe and an incredible way to get back into the game after 50 minutes.

  7. try

Try Bordeaux 17-10 Edinburghpublished at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Duhan Van der Merwe

Bordeaux throw it about in search of a third try and all of a sudden Mark Bennett nicks it - pops it off to Duhan Van der Merwe - and no one is going to stop the Edinburgh fly-half.

Jaco Van der Walt knocks over the conversion and it's game on.

Not for the first time today, Richard Cockerill's side build up a promising head of steam, only to cough up possession in the Bordeaux half.

The head coach would be tearing his hair out - if he had any.

    Bordeaux 17-3 Edinburgh

An Edinburgh line-out is stolen. That's not going to do much for the confidence of hooker Mike Willemse after a couple of costly wobbles in the first half.

Here we go again. Can Edinburgh find a way back against the Top 14 leaders?

Centre James Johnstone is on for the visitors, taking over from Matt Scott.

It's those fine margins. Edinburgh haven't been clinical enough despite building a foundation in the game. They haven't really threatened the Bordeaux line at all in that half. They need to be a bit more threatening because at the moment in an attacking sense, Bordeaux are able to contain pretty much everything Edinburgh are doing.

The first try didn't look clear cut whatsoever. But if Edinburgh are first to get on the board in the second half, get a try, there's no reason they can't give Bordeaux a fright

Edinburgh need the next score to have a chance but all is not lost.

A home win against group whipping boys Agen next weekend and Richard Cockerill's side will be into the last eight.

I think Edinburgh have competed very well physically. They've turned over a bit of ball in attack which has been costly, but they're right there. Bordeaux are so good at turnovers. Semi Radrada is a force of nature. He is a phenomenal rugby player and he's the difference between the sides.

  15. Half-time Bordeaux 17-3 Edinburghpublished at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

Edinburgh have played well but two basic blunders have let them down.

Bordeaux have a healthy lead, without having hit the heights they are capable of.

Again it's a shame. It's a simple get-out play. The ball hasn't been controlled and it was ripped out by Bordeaux and they've gone down the other end and scored. It shows you the danger they have, they're frightfully quick. Give them a two-on-one and they'll finish it.

  17. try

Try Bordeaux 17-3 Edinburghpublished at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Santiago Cordero

Another Edinburgh error is punished. The ball is lost as Jaco Van der Walt has the ball ripped away from him in contact. Semi Radrada powers his way forward and then Santiago Cordero is touching down in the corner.

    Matthieu Jalibert adds the extras.

The effort from Matt Scott has been unbelievable. The line speed the centres are generating is extraordinary. You can hear Cockerill urging the players to get up and put this team under pressure to force errors. Massive line speed and huge collisions.

It's a real shame because Edinburgh worked so hard to get field position and the line-out was simply over-thrown. Richard Cockerill will be fuming. His men will be really disappointed. To be in the game for so long and to just have an over throw, give these guys 60 metres.
