    FT: Glasgow 15-30 Edinburgh

It's been a great night for Edinburgh as they secured a place in the semi-finals of the Pro14 and claimed the 1872 Cup after victory over Glasgow.

It was the scrum-halves that did the damage, Nic Groom with a brace of tries and substitute Charlie Shiel with an absolute beauty to put Glasgow to bed after they had registered tries from Pete Horne and Adam Hastings.

We'll do it all again on Friday night when the sides meet again at Murrayfield in front of a (limited) crowd! Join us then.

Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill: "We're happy with a good win. It's a little bit scrappy with lots to work on. Both sides will probably come away thinking they could've done better but we're in a semi-final, we've earned the right to be there and now we can comeback next week and hopefully earn the right to have it at home."

I think Danny Wilson will be reasonably positive. They played really well in the first half. I didn't understand why they moved away from the game-plan that had been working well for them.

I think Glasgow's issue is the lack of strength in depth. They are a team in transition.

Leinster are the team to beat in the Pro14 but Edinburgh at their best are a very, very good side. For their first game back, that was a good performance.

    Glasgow 15-13 Edinburgh

Well it might have been a rusty start but that turned out to be a pretty entertaining match.

Glasgow were well in the game for a long time and actually looked comfortable at 15-13 up, but as soon as they fell behind they seemed to lose a little bit of heart.

Edinburgh claim the 1872 Cup and carry some real momentum into the Pro14 semi-finals.

  6. Glasgow's last standpublished at 79 mins

    Glasgow 15-30 Edinburgh

Glasgow look to salvage some pride by pummelling the Edinburgh line. When it's whipped wide to Huw Jones he is bundled into touch and a big roar goes up from the Edinburgh players. They did not want to be breached there.

  7. try

Try! Glasgow 15-30 Edinburghpublished at 75 mins

Charlie Shiel, con Van der Walt

    That is a stunning try!

Substitute scrum-half Charlie Shiel gets the ball and cuts inside Scott Cummings, gasses Adam Hastings, skips away from Ryan Wilson and Niko Matawalu only gets a hand on him when he's diving over the line.

That is a scintillating score from the young nine.

  8. Edinburgh in chargepublished at 73 mins

    Glasgow 15-23 Edinburgh

Glasgow seem to have lost a little bit of heart and Edinburgh really are in charge now.

Mark Bennett makes a nice break but can't find the final pass. Bill Mata looks to make an incision but knocks forward. It's been an unusually quiet performance from the big Fijian, though he is still getting through plenty of work.

  9. Heavyweight boutpublished at 70 mins

    Glasgow 15-23 Edinburgh

Now Ryan Wilson and Nick Haining get embroiled in some fistycuffs. Don't envy referee Mike Adamson trying to separate those two big boys.

As Peter Wright points out in commentary, maybe not the time for Wilson to get involved when his team is eight points down.

  10. Penalty - Glasgow 15-23 Edinburghpublished at 67 mins

    Jaco van der Walt

The pendulum has swung Edinburgh's way.

Glasgow concede a scrum penalty and Jaco van der Walt bangs a superb kick from beyond the 10m straight between the sticks to stretch Edinburgh's lead to eight points.

Can Glasgow come back from here?

It shows you how valuable Van der Merwe is - that was just awesome.

  13. try

Try! Glasgow 15-20 Edinburghpublished at 61 mins

Nic Groom, con Van der Walt

Well we said the big man was threatening and Duhan van der Merwe has just ripped Glasgow to shreds.

The wing sliced through the Warriors defence, ghosting past several tackles before beautifully offloading for Nic Groom to score his second of the game.

  14. Van der Merwe threatenspublished at 58 mins

    Glasgow 15-13 Edinburgh

We've not seen much of Duhan van der Merwe this evening. The big Edinburgh wing gets his hands on ball and starts moving through the gears, dancing in-field past several tackles but when he's brought down he's penalised for holding on.

Gregor Townsend will be an interested spectator, the South African-born wing having recently become qualified to represent Scotland.

  15. Hastings off-targetpublished at 55 mins

    Glasgow 15-13 Edinburgh

Simon Bergan is penalised at the breakdown and allows Adam Hastings a shot at goal. The opportunity to stretch the lead to five points is wasted as the fly-half nudges his effort wide.

It was around 40m but fairly central, and a kicker of Hastings' calibre will be disappointed with that.

Edinburgh are all over the place. They are just bashing it up. They have no penetration. Glasgow deserve this lead.

  17. Sau deniedpublished at 51 mins

    Glasgow 15-13 Edinburgh

Edinburgh are desperate to get the next score and it almost comes from Eroni Sau who looks for a split-second like he might be about to get in at the corner, but Ratu Tagivi's defence is excellent and he extinguishes the danger.

  18. Captains go toe-to-toepublished at 50 mins

    Glasgow 15-13 Edinburgh

Edinburgh threaten when they go wide but George Taylor takes the wrong option and tries to chip ahead, only to boot the ball straight at Ratu Tagivi.

As play breaks up Fraser Brown and Stuart McInally, the two captains and rivals for the Scotland number two jersey, get involved in a bit of argy-bargy.

    Tasty.

It's a really scrappy start to the second half. Glasgow have gone to a kicking game which is surprising. They were making real inroads with the wide game.

  20. Edinburgh pinned backpublished at 43 mins

    Glasgow 15-13 Edinburgh

It's Glasgow who start the second half on the front foot as Huw Jones comes into the line and dinks a lovely little kick in behind the Edinburgh defence and into touch.

From the line-out just inside the Edinburgh 22, Glasgow give up a soft offside penalty to allow their opponents off the hook.
