Former England fly-half on BBC 5 Radio Live Sports Extra

France have pace and power and players with jet shoes on the wings. They are the real deal, they will have much sterner tests to come but they are heading in the right direction at a very quick pace and have players to come back in such as Ntamack.

Italy had a very young team and will find bits where they can find positives but frankly it looked like too many of their players were playing on the big stage for the first time and they have a lot of thinking to do.

The game was effectively done after half an hour as France raced into a 24-3 lead.

A flurry of tries after the interval highlighted their dominance, while Italy claimed a deserved consolation.

France probably never got out of third gear, but victory in Rome is a great way to start the tournament.

Antoine Dupont is unsurprisingly given the Man of the Match award.

The camera rolls onto the scrum-half, who is wearing his France face mask while he relaxes on the bench.

I wonder if he was able to crack a smile under that mask when he was shown on the big screen?

  9. try

    Teddy Thomas

The half century is up for France!

France move it through the hands and Brice Dulin manages to flick the ball onto Teddy Thomas before drawing a thumping tackle from Monty Ioane.

Thomas skips back inside to beat his man and that's a second try for the wing.

This time the conversion is missed, but the damage is probably already done!

Italy find themselves deep inside the France 22, but they lose their own line-out.

Those are the kind errors they will be looking to eradicate as we move through the tournament.

France are given an easy out and the chance disappears.

    A consolation Italy deserve.

The hosts have been blown away in the second half, but it was some tidy play down the right.

It's fed wide to wing Luca Sperandio, who executes a perfect chip and chase to score Italy's first try.

    Paolo Garbisi kicks the conversion.

    Aaand breathe!

After those pulsating couple of minutes, there's a slight lull in play as France decide to wrap Antoine Dupont in cotton wool.

The scrum-half is replaced by Baptiste Serin.

    Teddy Thomas (con Matthieu Jalibert)

    Favour returned.

The impressive Matthieu Jalibert rides a couple of tackles to make the break this time.

He pops off to Antoine Dupont, who throws it to the unopposed Teddy Thomas for payback from a few minutes ago.

Jalibert continues to bang them over from the tee as well.

    Antoine Dupont (con Matthieu Jalibert)

    The floodgates are open now...

France score their fifth try straight off the training field.

It's off the top of the line-out to 10, who feeds 12, before 14 runs through on a wrap around.

Teddy Thomas is the 14 who is too quick for the Azzuri and he feeds it back inside for Antoine Dupont to score under the posts.

    Matthieu Jalibert kicks the conversion.

    Bonus point in the bag!

Italy pump it deep into French territory before Brice Dulin catches the ball and runs it back at them.

It's thrown wide to Gabin Villiere, who kicks through for Dulin to reclaim and score in the corner.

Matthieu Jalibert adds the conversion. Too easy.
