That's it for this evening. What a match that was. Intense, breathless, compelling.

Wales pushed France much closer than many would have expected, and there will be a deep sense of frustration among the home players that they were unable to take any of their second-half chances.

As for France, their Shaun Edwards-drilled defence was imperious. Les Bleus demonstrated that they can win matches in various different ways.

This victory sets France up beautifully for the final weekend. A match against England with a Grand Slam - which would be France's first since 2010 - on the line in Paris.

There are still two matches to come this weekend before then. Scotland visit Italy before England host Ireland in another huge game.

Thanks for joining us this evening. Nos da!

Wayne Pivac felt Wales' failure to take their chances cost them dear as they were beaten for the third time in this year's Six Nations.

"What we asked for, we got," said the Wales coach.

"The boys put in a very big effort. In these sort of matches, one score can win it and we probably had our opportunity in the second half. We didn't quite get it.

"We were in it right to the end. We are just very disappointed not to get the win obviously.

"We have got to make sure that the opportunities we create, we take them."

  3. 'Our defence won the game' - Ibanezpublished at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

France team manager Raphael Ibanez put his side's victory down to an "outstanding" defensive effort.

"It was a very tense game," he said.

"We were under pressure, especially in the second half. Wales had a great kicking game.

"But winning in the end, it's a great opportunity next week.

"Sometimes you cannot play fantastic rugby every week. You have to be smart in certain areas and our defence was outstanding - that's what won us the game."

Captain Dan Biggar spoke of his pride in Wales' performance despite the frustration of a narrow defeat.

"Ultimately it's very, very disappointing," he said.

"We said in the huddle, we would have been maybe a bit fortunate to come back and nicked it at Twickenham, but this week we were the better team for large periods of the game.

"Big Test matches hinge on one or two big moments. We didn't quite nail them and we paid the price.

"I am so proud of the way the lads stuck to it against the form team in world rugby at the minute.

"That's a bit more like us in terms of attitude, and probably something we didn't quite show in the first half against England and Ireland."

  5. 'Incredible team to be part of' - Willemsepublished at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

France forward Paul Willemse praised his team-mates after they held on for victory.

"We prepared knowing this was going to be one of the toughest games of the season," he said.

"We are really happy with the result even though it wasn't a clean match, but it's expected against a team like Wales.

"They kept us in our half for a long time. There are lot of things to work on for next week and we'll do that.

"This is a really amazing and incredible team to be part of. I am really grateful to be part of it because I think we can do big things."

A big team need to be able to win all types of game.

It doesn't always have to be champagne rugby, sometimes it has to be like this - very tactical.

Wales were the better team, they had more opportunities and chances.

They made France shut up shop in the second half but their defence was just superb.

Wales matched them, it had the potential to be a 20-pointer with the way France have been playing but Wales didn't let them.

Wales I think have proved a lot of people wrong in this campaign - they have been much better than a lot of people thought they would be.

But while they had one opportunity, they didn't have enough power and attacking nous to overcome the French defence.

And in contrast, France took their one opportunity that came in the first half.

There wasn't much between the two teams at all. Wales made it scrappy for France, but they did just deserve it in the end.

Wales really shut France down. They almost forgot how to play with the ball in the second half.

But their defence was so strong, they didn't give penalties away that were kickable and they will sit there feeling relieved.

What an amazing Test match - intensity, pressure, doggedness, just hanging on.

Great discipline and great defence by both sides.

Wales just could not get that line break - there was that one opportunity for Jonathan Davies.

Wales had clear opportunities, especially thinking of that moment where Dan Biggar kicked to Taulupe Faletau.

You don't get many opportunities against a team like France so when you do get them, you have to take them and Wales didn't.

    That's it! France hold on!

That's an agonising defeat for Wales, who battled superbly throughout but could not quite find a way through in an absorbing contest.

As for France, they are one win away from a first Grand Slam since 2010.
