    FT: Italy 22-33 Scotland

That's all for our text coverage from the game in Rome.

Those late scores for Italy take the gloss of Scotland's win and there will need to be an almighty improvement in defence next week if they are to have any chance in Dublin.

We'll find out how good Ireland are very soon as they prepare to tackle England at Twickenham.

    Bye for now.

  2. 'We'll take confidence from the win' - Townsendpublished at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    FT: Italy 22-33 Scotland

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has been speaking to BBC Radio Scotland.

"We're delighted with the win", he says. "It's been a tough venue for Scotland over the years.

"We played well until the 50 minute mark and after that we weren't as good. That's the best I've seen Italy play over the last couple of seasons.

"Maybe we thought they'd crack, but you have to keep your intensity up against all opposition.

"We pride ourselves on how we defend, the effort and physicality - the last 20 minutes wasn't good. We'll take confidence from the win into next week, which will be an even bigger challenge."

The final 20 minutes were really poor from Scotland. The defence has stepped back in a significant way. If they're conceding this number of points here, then lord knows how many Ireland, possibly going for the championship, will get in Dublin

It's laboured. Nothing flows for Scotland. The decision-making is largely poor. It's stop-start, there's a lack of consistency. Scotland did lots of good things today, but still only won the game by 11 points. We should have kicked on, but instead, we let the Italians come back at us.

Italy started well and finished strongly and there will be a sense of what might have been for the hosts.

However, they have got some very exciting young players coming through and can take plenty of positives from today's performance.

Ange Capuozzo won't have to buy a drink if he's out on the town tonight, although he doesn't look old enough to get served.

Every team will score tries against Italy, so that's a given. You judge the performance on what they did in defence. Italy had scored one try coming into this game. Scotland's defence was pretty awful, and in the last 20 minutes Italy were dominant. That's worrying - it's not the Scotland of the last two seasons. Scotland have become a soft touch.

That's seven Six Nations wins on the spin for Scotland over Italy and five tries on the road are not to be sniffed at.

Scotland were clinical in attack at times, with Ali Price and Finn Russell in the thick of things after recent criticism.

Conceding three tries is a bit of a worry though.

A great finish at the end - Italy kept the ball alive for phase after phase. It puts a real dampener on this game for Scotland. I worry for next week with the ease that Italy have scored their three tries.

Scotland get the job done with a bonus point and nudge up to fourth place above Wales.

Some good, some bad for both sides, and it certainly made for a good watch.

Defence coaches might have been pulling their hair out though.

It's not great defence from Scotland. They get sucked in, which leaves a three v two on the outside. Italy execute well, and the young lad goes over.
