Poppy Cleall will tick the England captaincy off of her bucket list this afternoon as she'll run out as skipper for the first time at Franklin's Gardens.

Cleall takes the captaincy from Sarah Hunter, who starts from the bench. Head coach Simon Middleton was insistent when he announced the team that the change was a rotation of players rather than a switch due to form.

The change is one of five Middleton has made from their record 43-12 victory over New Zealand last Saturday. Helena Rowland starts at inside centre ahead of Lagi Tuima, Leanne Infante is at scrum-half with Claudia MacDonald on the bench and prop Vickii Cornborough and hooker Amy Cokayne start ahead of Hannah Botterman and Lark Davies.

England: Kildunne; Thompson, Aitchison, Rowland, Dow; Harrison, Infante; Cornborough, Cokayne, Bern, Aldcroft, Ward, Matthews, Packer, Cleall (capt).

Replacements: Davies, Botterman, Muir, Millar-Mills, Hunter, MacDonald, Tuima, McKenna.

England v New Zealand (14.45 GMT)

Les Elder will lead New Zealand this afternoon in their bid to right the wrongs of last Saturday when England dealt them a record defeat.

All eyes will be on World Cup winner Portia Woodman who is fit to start on the wing. The star will add speed and skill which she displayed at the Tokyo Olympics as part of the Black Ferns Sevens' gold medal campaign.

Woodman is one of three back changes with Cheyelle Robins-Reti and Grace Brooker coming in at full-back and inside centre respectively. In the forwards hooker Grace Houpapa-Barrett will try and influence the set-piece, Joanah Ngan-Woo comes in at lock and Liana Mikaele-Tu’u starts at No. 8.

New Zealand: Robins-Reti; Woodman, Fluhler, Brooker, Leti-I’iga; Demant, Cocksedge; Love, Houpapa-Barrett, Nelson, Ngan-Woo, Wills, Bremner, Elder (capt), Mikaele-Tu’u.

Replacements: Ngata-Aerengamate, Itunu, Rule, Roos, Simon, Bayler, Maliepo, Hohepa.
