  2. 'A collective effort from Scotland'published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

As for man of the match Finn Russell, Gregor Townsend added: "Perhaps the most impressive part of his game was his defence.

"Wales ran down his channel but he made tackle after tackle. So to then have the accuracy he showed in attack after that shows what a competitive player he is.

"The players outside him then give him so many options. It was a collective effort and, with Finn in that form, it was very good."

  3. 'An outstanding win for the group'published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend tells BBC One: "It was [a complete performance] in the second half. The first half, we didn't get our game going. We didn't get through first two phases on enough occasions. Wales were competing hard at the breakdown, slowing our ball down or winning the ball back.

"But we did build a score which was pleasing. Second half was much better, our contact work improved, our maul was really strong which brought penalties and narrowed up the defence. Our backs were making the right decisions and getting behind the defence.

"We're up against a top team who will stop you from playing but we looked at ourselves - how we could get support to the ball carrier better, how we could finish off a couple of opportunities. On the flip side, the second half we were getting the opportunities and they lead to tries. That's an outstanding win for the group because Wales have been a top team for a number of years. To come away with any win is pleasing, one with a bonus point sets us up well.

"We'll be confident, winning really helps. We had a really good week where we weren't easy on the players as coaches, but the players weren't easy on themselves. We had two tough physical sessions and there were areas we had to improve from Twickenham. The challenge only gets stronger. Today's display, while encouraging, will have to go up another level if we want to win in Paris."

  4. 'We need to take a good, hard look at ourselves'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has been giving his thoughts to BBC One after his losing his perfect record for Wales against Scotland.

"We were okay in the first half and could have gone in ahead at half-time," he said.

"Some of the things that affected us last week, our discipline, giving penalties away, and not being accurate, that was the most disappointing factor today.

"We had six minutes in their 22, and have come away with bugger all, so we need to have a good hard look at ourselves - we need to get better, and probably be a bit tougher on the players.

"We were beaten by the better team today, congratulations to Scotland - I thought they played exceptionally well. Finn Russell was outstanding.

"Some of the young boys really stepped up and we were pleased with their performances."

The effort was there and the youngsters stood up. They're the future for Wales.

My problem is the lack of creativity behind and that's been a problem for a number of years.

Today they were one-dimensional, not accurate and slightly clueless if we're being honest.

That is what Wales must work on now.

The phrase world-class is bandied about but Huw Jones is just that.

When he's on the front foot with quality ball, he brings players into the game around him with quick hands or an offload.

    He was phenomenal.

  8. 'There are positives,' says Owenspublished at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

Wales captain Ken Owens tells BBC One: "We had a lot of changes, especially in the pack and those boys showed the potential of where we're trying to go. We had a really good first-half performance, we were unlucky not to go in slightly ahead. We delivered everything we spoke about.

"In the second half we made back-to-back errors and put pressure on ourselves. If you give a team like Scotland front-foot ball they're going to punish you and that's what happened. We allowed them to come at us.

"When you're winning and you have that momentum, it's hard to lose. We've got to work hard next week, there's plenty experience and plenty youngsters coming through. It's early days with new coaching staff. We need to turn the corner against England and grind out a win. Find a win and build that momentum.

"There is positives out there. People back home are going to say there isn't but we believe in what we're trying to achieve."

Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie has also been giving his thoughts to BBC One: "I couldn't ask for more from the crowd today. It was perfect, but we did enough to get the job done. I'm pleased to be holding Doddie's trophy.

"It's the first game without him here - we're delighted. I'm a bit all over the place, emotional. I'm glad we were able to do this for Kathy today.

"If we play to our best, we can beat any team. We've got more in us - we're looking to improve when we go to Paris."

  13. 'Russell changed the tactical game'published at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

    Jonathan Davies
Former Wales international on BBC One

For me, to see Finn Russell change the tactical game was brilliant.

First half, he pushed it a little. Second half, he thought: 'Right, we'll make Wales play a game they don't want to play and come from their own half'.

They kicked a lot, they forced Wales to run the ball back at them and Wales were uncomfortable. When you have momentum you have to score points and Wales didn't do that. Scotland did.

  14. 'Scotland grab game by scruff off the neck'published at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

    John Barclay
Former Scotland captain on BBC One

It wasn't going perfectly at half-time. It shows what we know, we said it wasn't the day for Finn Russell to be throwing balls out the back.

There was a maturity and a clear change of tactic second half and the ability to implement that. They kicked it long, put pressure on Wales. Same as last week, their ability to execute under pressure was brilliant.

That allows players like Finn Russell, Duhan van der Merwe grow in the game. The most pleasing thing was their ability to get into the sheds at half-time and grab that game by the scruff off the neck.

  15. 'Wales paying for lost three years'published at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

    Jamie Roberts
Former Wales international on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Wales were just blown off the park.

Warren Gatland has come in but has had such little time.

We hoped the loss at home to Georgia in November was a watershed but I can't help think Wales are now paying the price for some poor decisions over the past three years.

We have a lot of old players and then a gap to the youngsters who don't know what it takes to win at this level.

We looked raw, lacked leadership and I can't see where we're going to win.

    FT: Scotland 35-7 Wales

Finn Russell was at his mercurial best this afternoon, and he's been talking briefly to BBC One.

"It was a great game and a great result for us," he said. "The boys put in a great performance which was great to have at Murrayfield.

"I was just doing my job out there, making the other boys look good. The continuity in the squad allowed us to attack like we did today.

"The defence shut them out and the attack was good - a good performance all round."
