There have been games over the years against New Zealand where Wales are ahead in the 60th minute, but the All Blacks step up a gear and score 21 points in 20 minutes!

To win today's game, Wales will need to keep possession and put pressure on New Zealand.

We need to get our set pieces right, and we need to kick cleverly so that we don't give the ball away.

Cheating, national scandal, timekeeping disasters and spine-tingling drama... Wales against New Zealand rarely disappoints.

The history of matches between two nations that bleed rugby - and plenty of the red stuff has been spilt over the years - is almost a history of the game itself.

Since the 1905 'Match of the Century' which gave rise to the tradition of singing national anthems before sports events, they have battled.

Now Justin Tipuric's side are the latest to try to lift the millstone from around their neck and bring a 69-year losing run to an end.

Ken Owens: I didn't want Wales regrets

While Christ Tshiunza is just making his way in the Test arena, Ken Owens is set to win his 83rd Wales cap today.

The hooker has admitted there were times he doubted whether he would return from a long-term back injury.

Owens, 35, has been recalled to the Wales squad for the autumn internationals after missing 11 months.

When asked whether there were times he doubted he would make it back, he replied: "Yes, a couple of times, but it was one of those [where] I didn't want to make the decision myself.

"I wanted to see what happened."

Last minute changes before a game aren't ideal, especially as the players have been training in their regular positions in the weeks leading up to this match.

But I have faith in Rhys Priestland and Gareth Anscombe as they're highly experienced players.

One player who is almost certain to be in that World Cup squad, fitness permitting, is Christ Tshiunza.

Scrum V has been talking to the Exeter forward - who is on the bench for Wales today - about his journey to international rugby.

We're spoilt for choice when it comes to wings here in Wales.

Louis Rees-Zammit is running the show at Gloucester...I'm looking forward to seeing Rio Dyer play too.

It's going to be a big game for Dyer today, making his debut against the All Blacks.

Wales v New Zealand (15:15 GMT)

It's less than a year until the next World Cup, so teams are already starting to prepare for the tournament.

Wales coach Wayne Pivac tells the Scrum V Podcast a "bolter" could make his 2023 World Cup squad - but 90% of it is in place.

  8. Llanelli celebrate 50 years since their All Blacks winpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

Wales v New Zealand (15:15 GMT)

It might be 69 years since Wales beat New Zealand but you might have heard that another Welsh side have managed to do so since.

Llanelli claimed a famous victory over the All Blacks in 1972 (they enjoy mentioning it in that part of the world) and Monday marked the 50th anniversary.

Llanelli, then nicknamed the Scarlets, remain the last Welsh senior side to defeat New Zealand. The Wales men's national team has not managed the feat in 32 attempts since.

Wales' back-rowers can win possession on the floor, and they can steal possession

Reffell can slow the ball down in the ruck, and Tipuric and Faletau have great ball handling skills too.

They have to make sure that kind of play is effective and that there isn't that much risk attached to it against New Zealand.

  10. Tipuric savours Wales captaincy honourpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

It's also a big day for Justin Tipuric, who says he is honoured to be named Wales captain for the autumn series in the absence of the injured Dan Biggar.

Ospreys flanker Tipuric will lead Wales in Tests against New Zealand, Argentina, Georgia and Australia this autumn.

Want to know a bit more about Wales debutant Rio Dyer?

Well, he's scored nine tries in 35 appearances for Dragons and he's been in fine form this season.

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac believes the "confident" 22-year-old can shine against the All Blacks today.

    I'm delighted for Rhys Priestland.

If you remember the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2011, he was one of Wales best players at the time.

I know he lost a bit of confidence before he moved to Bath, but he's back to his best now at Cardiff Rugby.

Maybe his age isn't on his side, but he's one of those fly-halves who can control a game.

All three Barrett brothers start for New Zealand, with Beauden at full-back, Jordie at inside centre and Scott returning from injury in the second row.

Fellow lock Sam Whitelock captains the team in the absence of injured flanker Sam Cane.

Will Jordan misses out with a "vestibular" issue so Sevu Reece and Caleb Clarke are the starting wings.

New Zealand are also without second row Brodie Retallick after he was sent off in last Saturday's 38-31 win over Japan.

The All Blacks had already lost captain Cane and hooker Dane Coles for the UK tour after picking up injuries in Tokyo.

New Zealand: B Barrett; Reece, R Ioane, J Barrett, Clarke; Mo'unga, Smith; De Groot, Taylor, Lomax, Whitelock (capt), S Barrett, Frizell, Papali'i, Savea.

    Replacements: Taukei'aho, Tu'ungafasi, Newell, Vaa'i, A Ioane, Weber, Havili, Lienert-Brown.

The headline team news for Wales is that Rio Dyer, the 22-year-old Dragons wing, will make his international debut today. Some day for it.

There's been a late change today, with Leigh Halfpenny ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Gareth Anscombe moves to full-back in Halfpenny's absence, Rhys Priestland comes in at 10 and the uncapped Sam Costelow comes on to the bench.

Back from more than a year out injured are hooker Ken Owens and new captain Justin Tipuric, who starts in the back row alongside Tommy Reffell and Taulupe Faletau.

This is the team in full.

Wales: Anscombe; Rees-Zammit, North, Tompkins, Dyer; Priestland, T Williams; Thomas, Owens, Francis, Rowlands, Beard, Tipuric, Reffell, Faletau.

  15. Hello and welcomepublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

Wales v New Zealand (15:15 GMT)

Brown leaves adorn the streets, there's a chill in the air and everywhere you turn in Wales you hear about the fact they haven't beaten New Zealand since 1953... It must be time for the autumn internationals!

It's the mighty All Blacks up first for Wales in this year's Autumn Nations Series and, as ever, the Cardiff crowd are hoping to witness some history.

Can Wayne Pivac's men finally claim that big scalp? Some think they might be able to, with New Zealand losing at home to Ireland and Argentina earlier this year.

They're still a formidable group of players, though. Speaking of which, let's start with the team news.
