More from Sarah Hunter on BBC Two: "This crowd was insane tonight. It was just to show that I’ve seen them and I recognise them.

"I feel really proud. I don’t think I would have wanted it any other way. It wasn’t easy at times. Having been involved in days like this, being a professional, I have so much appreciation for everything we’ve been through.

"We’ve tried to increase the standard and keep pushing where women’s rugby should be. The girls today will be the trail-blazers.

"We had such incredible trail-blazers that have gone before us. It is our responsibility to pass that on.

"What’s next? Who knows? I’m going to go back to Loughborough and do some coaching and see where we get to.

"I’ll just take it as it comes. I’m not stressed by what’s next. I’m just going to hopefully enjoy this occasion into next week."

Scotland have left it late but they seem to have found another gear.

They run the England defence one way and then the other, before knocking on.

    That will be that.
