    Try time.

Holly Aitchison steps back against the traffic and is hauled down but England move the ball from the ruck quickly.

It's thrown wide, where hooker Amy Cokayne is on hand to ground the ball.

    Lagi Tuima misses the conversion.

Scotland are playing with fluidity and are moving the ball quickly but the pass is loose and Jess Breach is off the line to intercept.

Scotland looking to hit back quickly.

Emma Orr runs a great line to test the English defence. She tries to ground the ball but is just short.

Millimetres. That is all we were from what would have probably been parity.

So much of that try came from Holly Aitchison. She put Marlie Packer through the Scotland defence and served up the pass to Amber Reed, who then found MacDonald for the try.

Aitchison has taken the 10 shirt with Zoe Harrison and Helena Rowland injured and so far, she is owning it.

  8. try

Converted try - England 7-0 Scotlandpublished at 9 mins

    Claudia MacDonald (Con Amber Reed)

I said England still had the ball.

They move it into midfield and the pass back inside puts Claudia MacDonald into space and she has too much power to get over.

Amber Reed kicks the conversion and England's campaign is up and running.

    England 0-0 Scotland

The final English pass just goes astray.

Marlie Packer makes the break and it's recycled for Holly Aitchison to move the ball wide, but it doesn't go to hand.

England still have the ball and they go again.

When England completely dominated an opening scrum, it looked like things were only going one way in Newcastle.

But it is Scotland who have been threatening England's line since. Captain Rachel Malcolm promised something new in attack and the visitors look full of beans.

    Clever.

Holly Aitchison is driving England forward with some lovely touches and a nice kick in behind really tested out Scotland. That's just how you want your fly-half to start.

    England 0-0 Scotland

Something you don't see very often.

Marlie Packer is usually so powerful with ball in hand but she is driven back by a couple of blue shirts in midfield.

Scotland will be pleased with their defence so far.

Some early game nerves perhaps as England drop the kick off, but then comes the power from the first scrum and the hosts win the decision against the head.

That will do wonders to settle the nerves for the women in white.
