Head coach Simon Middleton on BBC Two on prospect of facing France for the title at Twickenham: "It's going to be a great occasion and experience but it'll only be great if we get the performance and the result we want. It's another benchmark moment. I just hope it's a really good game.

"We have quite a bit of work to do in terms of fixing people up and also in terms of how we play."

  3. 'Packer would be a big loss but England have depth'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Maggie Alphonsi
2014 England World Cup winner on BBC Two

"Marlie Packer would be a significant loss because she galvanises this side and typifies the way they play. She's aggressive and takes the ball to the line but the good thing is they have depth and can fill those positions. They have other leaders as well.

"I feel for Marlie if she can't play against France at Twickenham because it's such a big game."

    Ireland 0-48 England

England scrum-half Natasha Hunt on BBC Two:

"It feels bittersweet because we're very frustrated how we went about it but I am so proud to be back with the girls. It's such an honour to play for your country and get another shot to pull the jersey on

"Our breakdown was a mess today and made my job really difficult. We need to look at that but there are loads of positives. We were also a bit loose with the ball coming out wide, but they are easy fixes if we all work together."

It makes a difference when you lose your captain and a key player like Hannah Botterman. All week England have heard how poor this Ireland side are and it was almost as if they didn't have a plan B in the second half.

It should have been a better game and England should have been much better than that.

    Emily Scarratt

In the second half England gave away penalties, were loose with their skills, weren't as clinical as usual and ended up with 18 unforced errors in the game. That is a huge number and you will not get away with that against a better side such as France next week.

It's all over, the result was expected but England were not at their clinical best and they will be looking to improve significantly for France next week.

Ireland are still showing some great spirit, Ailsa Hughes making a nice break to ease some pressure from within their own 22. They may not have anything to show for it, but the home side have played out of their skins in the second half.

That shows you what England can do when they keep it simple and recycle the ball. They were forcing the pass earlier but that try was from strong, direct and simple play. When they do that well it's unstoppable.
