  2. Townsend 'relatively pleased'published at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    FT: Scotland 28-12 Fiji

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has been speaking to Amazon Prime.

    "Relatively pleased," he said.

"The performance in the first half wasn't near our best. We gave away too many penalties in that first half, which gave Fiji confidence and points on the board.

"Second half we stuck about our task, we could've got more points, but we found a way to win which is important.

"I'll imagine that the players won't be pleased [with the penalty count] either. The referees were refereeing the offsides strictly and we improved in the second half - that's a response you want to see.

"We talk about being consistent, but when you play the best teams you have to be at your best. We've never beaten [New Zealand] in our history, we've come close, and we'll take inspiration from our performance five years ago.

"We'll have to be much better, we know that, so we'll improve after the learnings we take from today.

"Adam [Hastings] had a head injury, and he's getting a scan on his knee. George [Turner] had a shoulder injury, it doesn't look too serious but we'll find out more this evening."

Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie has also been talking to Amazon Prime Video: "We knew it was going to be a tough game", he said. "We knew there would be times where they'd get the upper hand and have momentum.

"I'm proud of how we fought back. We stuck to our guns and got the result. We spoke about trusting ourselves and trusting our system.

"I'm confident we can win all the [rest of the] games. We're going full guns blazing at the All Blacks next week and we're looking to come out with the result."

  6. 'More questions than answers'published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    FT: Scotland 28-12 Fiji

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

A win but one riddled with massive concerns and nothing to suggest that Scotland are improving. They finally managed to get a bit of ball in the second half and Fiji's horrific lack of discipline made it easy for them.

Against better sides Scotland would have lost this by half-time. The crowd's Mexican Wave told you something about what went on here.

It was dull and the All Blacks are coming next. The discipline of the home team was poor again. Double figures in penalties. Two yellow cards. More questions than answers.

Scotland winger Darcy Graham has been talking to Amazon Prime Video post-match.

"It's massive", he said. "There was a bit of pressure coming into this game, but the boys stepped up really well.

"Fiji threw everything at us, but we were expecting that. We knew how dangerous they could be, so we just had to weather the storm.

"We stuck to our systems, boys will be happy with that; I'm really enjoying my rugby."

Scotland managed to control territory better in that second half and took a couple of opportunities. Steve Tandy will be delighted that they didn't concede after the break.

    Job done for Scotland.

A very sloppy first half was followed by a better second. Tries from George Turner, Adam Hastings, Duhan van der Merwe, and Ben White give Scotland a much-needed victory.

Scotland's second yellow card. Fiji have had three. It's 14 v 14 for the final minute.

This game is petering out. Scotland are going to win.

But it's not been the convincing performance they would have hoped for.

Can they finish with a flourish? They have a lineout on Fiji's 22.

    Scotland 28-12 Fiji

Darcy Graham was hardly involved last week, and with the form he is in currently, that felt like a real waste.

No such issues this afternoon for the Hawick man - 11 carries and 92m made with ball in hand make him today's Player of the Match.

Fiji are not done and they chuck the ball about in the Scotland half. It's a joy to watch.

We'll pause for an injury to a Fiji player. Some strapping is being applied.

Nigh on impossible to defend that when you're down a man. You have to force Scotland out wide though. Ben White will never score an easier try.

Try - Scotland 28-12 Fijipublished at 74 mins

    Ben White

    This time it will count!

With Fiji down to 14 men, Ben White simply picks the ball out the back of the scrum and waltzes over with nobody near him.

Blair Kinghorn adds the extras from in front of the sticks. Finally, the pressure pays off.

  16. Disallowed try - Cameron Redpathpublished at 73 mins

    Scotland 21-12 Fiji

Scotland are finally over the line.

Or are they? They're checking for a knock on. And replays clearly show Jack Dempsey has padded the ball forward on the deck before the ball was flung out for Redpath to cross.

Livai Natave goes to the bin though because Scotland had already secured yet another scrum penalty as Fiji creak under the pressure.

    Darcy Graham curses his luck.

Ben White kicks into the corner and the Scotland winger thinks he's gathered, but Fiji's fly-half Vilimoni Botitu gets a hand in the way.

It's another advantage being played though. Scotland scrum. Hambosi is back from the bin for Fiji.

It's game on and Scotland have a go at the line. Blair Kinghorn fires out a huge pass to Cam Redpath on the wing, but there's no advantage.

    Fiji's discipline is falling apart.
