Gloucester coach George Skivington speaking to BT Sport:

"I am very, very proud, gutted and I cannot get away from that. We fought hard, we were unlucky with some calls that would have got us a lead during the game. That’s the way it goes in the end, we have had a ropey season off the field and pulled together. It was painful to lose like that in the closing stages.

"We were brave tonight and I have nothing but good to say about the boys tonight."

Former Scotland forward Johnnie Beattie speaking on BT Sport: "Gloucester were dogged, tenacious and creative, I hope it galvanises them for the rest of the season, they were phenomenal against La Rochelle who obliterate everyone on the gain line.

"They deserved to win, they were outstanding. They had effort in spades and were wonderful to watch."

Leinster captain James Ryan, speaking to BT Sport: "The second half was about being direct, being strong in the ruck and direct with our carries and try to get as much gain-line as we can. It was just simple rugby that got us over the line today.

"52,000 here today which is unreal support for a last-16 game. I don't think there is a better supported club in Europe. It is a six day turnaround now, it is a quick turnaround but hopefully we can fill it out again.

"Leicester are one of the best teams in England and the Champions Cup with a very strong set-piece as a territory based team. It could be a similar game to today, a bit of an arm wrestle."

It was far from a classic like the game between the sides in the 2019 quarter-final, as Leinster beat a brave Ulster.

A huge ask for Leicester going to the Aviva in the quarter-final.

That was breathless. La Rochelle were on the ropes for 78 minutes but they showed the resolve of champions.

Teddy Thomas got over to break Gloucester's resistance late on.

Gloucester pushed them to the brink but La Rochelle keep their defence alive late on.

What a game.

It's a siege.

Pink shirts defending their line with such valour. Yellow ones, relentless in their attempts to bang the door down.

This is thrilling!

The crowd are up and their men in yellow are banging on the door again.

It's desperate defence by Gloucester. Can they hold on?

Was it ever in doubt?

Billy Twelvetrees steps up to fire the ball through the posts and Gloucester are leading the defending champions by four points.

Not long left to go.

Gloucester win the penalty as La Rochelle are penalised for using their hands past the ball in the ruck.

They will have the shot at goal. This for a four point lead.

Georges-Henri Colombe hasn't been on the field long but he will spend the next 10 minutes in the bin for awkwardly rolling Ruan Ackermann over at the ruck.

Jonathan Danty straightens his line and he's into space but his pass to Jules Favre sails into touch.

That had everything but the final act.

More entertainment from Louis Rees-Zammit.

He collects the ball in the backfield and runs it straight back into La Rochelle territory.

He nudges the ball ahead and then it's a straight foot race with Teddy Thomas.

The ball beats them both but that was edge of your seat stuff.

La Rochelle gather the ball deep inside their own territory but the Welshman is there to make the tackle.
