    Japan 28-12 Chile

We resume with a Japanese line-out.

Big 20 minutes now for Chile, who have expended a lot of energy with their great efforts today. We saw Namibia and Romania get punished in the latter stages yesterday - can the debutants avoid a similar fate?

    Japan 28-12 Chile

Chile are still trying to play through the hands and run the ball when they can.

Rodrigo Fernandez nearly gets replacement Jose Ignacio Larenas in on the left wing, but the pass is just too strong.

We go to a water break.

Andrew: Chile just won’t go away. They’re showing tremendous resiliency and are giving Japan a real fright.

A horrid bounce after a steepling kick almost allows Japan in again, Santiago Videla was having kittens with that one.

He is bailed out by his team-mates.

    Michael Leitch (53 mins)

Bonus point secured for scoring four tries.

Masirewa is denied, however Japan work the ball back inside and Michael Leitch darts under the posts.

    Japan 21-12 Chile

Japan have been clearly stung by events thus far in this second half and look to reassert dominance.

They work a good attacking scenario out to the right. Full-back Semisi Masirewa darting for the line...

    Japan 21-12 Chile

After their first try, Chile dropped the ball from the kick-off and allowed Japan in immediately to equalise.

This time, the hands are much more secure. The newbies learning game management as they go.

    They have taken advantage!

A chaotic passage of play, in which an attempted Chile kick is charged down but lands straight in full-back Inaki Ayarza's midriff as if attracted by a magnet.

Ayarza breaks through but is held up on the line - only for number eight Alfonso Escobar to nip in and get the score.

The try is not converted though, meaning Japan still have breathing room.

That’s a DISGRACEFUL decision. If Tom Curry’s was a red then surely that was? These reviews are killing the game. Neither were a red card but you have to have consistency. England should appeal that and these decisions need a review. I completely understand player safety but these referees are getting it so wrong that it’s becoming a joke.

Catie is referring to the Sigren yellow rather than the Riley yellow, by the way.

Nope, it's 14 v 15 again - and this time Japan are the ones punished.

Dylan Riley is in the bin after a deliberate knock-on which halted a potential Chilean line break. Can Chile take advantage?

I'm a strong advocate for player safety but there does need to be a question of what the player's options were. Yes he should have been in a better position but he just took the hit, he didn't actively make a tackle. Red card would be harsh.

Chile so close to a second try!

Some great footwork from Marcelo Torrealba, however he cannot get the lay-off away metres from the line.

That's a boost for Chile, but they still have a mountain to climb in this game.

Japan need one more try for a bonus point, which they will surely need in their bid for a top-two place in Pool D.

The yellow card for Martin Sigren has NOT been upgraded.

The Chilean captain will return during this second half.

Probably the right call - although Tom Curry will now really start to feel he was hard done by last night.

Will: Am I going to be the only one to say this - go down this road and every match will have a red card. The Japanese player turns his back and collided with the Chile player. The guy can hardly go low as he would be knocked out. These rules whilst well intentioned are ruining the game!

Anon: These foul play decisions are killing rugby as a spectacle. No way Sigren could have got out the way in time.
