The most fantastic start. Argentina managed to go forward on the front-foot. Unbelievable side step from Santiago Chocobares, you can see why he is a regular at Toulouse.

  7. Japan seek another quarter-finalpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    Japan v Argentina (12:00 BST)

Japan have been in this situation in 2019.

At their home World Cup they made no mistake beating both Ireland and Scotland on route to a first knockout game.

South Africa beat the Brave Blossoms 26-3 in that quarter-final to end the dream.

Argentina head coach Michael Cheika has quite the rugby CV.

The Australian won World Rugby's coach of the year in 2015 after winning the Rugby Championship with the Wallabies, before losing to New Zealand in the World Cup final later that year.

He also won the European Cup with Leinster in 2009 to start an era of dominance for the Irish province.

Surely this guy is too good not to make the quarter-finals?

  9. Japan in 'really good condition'published at 11:51 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    Japan v Argentina (12:00 BST)

Japan head coach Jamie Joseph says his side are in "really good condition" heading into their final pool game.

The Brave Blossoms beat Samoa 28-22 last week to set up the exciting finale to Pool D.

"The players are in really good condition, both mentally and physically," said Joseph.

"We've had an up and down season, but I feel that we're starting to play some of our best rugby at the right time.

"We've been preparing for this game for the last three years, so we're really looking forward to it."

I sense a lot of Welsh fans are tuning in.

Simple question then - who do you want in the knockouts?

  11. The last meetingpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    Japan v Argentina (12:00 BST)

The only Rugby World Cup meeting between Argentina and Japan was back in 1999.

Argentina cruised to a 33-12 victory in Cardiff with tries from Diego Albanese and Agustin Pichot.

I imagine the gap between the sides has closed since then.

  12. Cheika ready for 'elimination match'published at 11:42 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Argentina head coach Michael Cheika says his team are ready to cope with the pressure of playing an "elimination match" against Japan.

Since the defeat by England in their opening match, the Pumas have been playing with the fear of exciting the competition.

"If you want it easy and for the script to be written, don't worry about coming," Cheika said.

"In international rugby, you don't always have games where everything is at stake. We have been doing it since the game against England.

"You have to have a certain level of pressure. They have been feeling that pressure for the first time and they are growing. It will be the third elimination match and we hope to have three more from now on."

  13. Pool Dpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Argentina currently sit second in Pool D. Any situation involving a draw means their superior points difference to Japan will come in handy.

Wales completed a clean sweep of World Cup pool matches with a bonus-point victory over Georgia.

Louis Rees-Zammit scored a hat-trick as Warren Gatland's side topped Pool C to set up a likely quarter-final meeting with Argentina or Japan.

Tomas Francis, Liam Williams and George North also crossed for Wales.

Georgia threatened a second-half comeback after tries from Merab Sharikadze, Vano Karkadze and Davit Niniashvili.
