It was a full performance, we haven't seen that, this was steady.

It was great to see the defence we pride ourselves on, it was like first half just give Australia the ball let them play themselves out of the game and second half was kill them off and that's what Wales did.

  2. Captain Jacpublished at 09:14 British Summer Time 25 September 2023

Scrum V: 2023 Rugby World Cup

Funny you should say that Sean because forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys has just been raving about captain Jac for another inspirational display.

“He’s phenomenal," said forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys.

"He’s one of these guys where nothing fazes him. He’s just the same kid all the way through the week. Two minutes before the game, just the same kid.

"He’s brave, He has such an impact on the game, such an impact on the group. Captaincy has not changed him one iota.

"He’s a huge figure for us and we’re blessed in that department. We’ve got Tommy (Reffell), who’s back fit now. Taine (Basham) who’s a different type of 7. So we’re really blessed in that department."

Jac Morgan's 50:22 was the moment that match was decided.

Australia kicked to touch when we haven't scored a rolling maul try all year and then three of them fell over in the lineout.

How good is Morgan by the way, what a player!

Australia didn't bring a lot second half but Wales didn't let them.

We were under a lot of pressure first 20 minutes, a couple of scrum penalties, Dan Biggar had gone off. Australia did have chances an easy three points when it was 10-6.

They went for a klick to the corner and they missed the lineout and Jac Morgan kicked a 50:22.

When that alarm went off first thing this morning I thought did that really happen?

When I was told it was the biggest ever loss by a Wallabies side at a World Cup I gave up.

We said we'd bring you the latest from the Wales cap.

There are a few bleary eye this morning but Wales forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys has been addressing the press this morning.

"We are happy and, to a certain degree, relieved," said Humphreys

"We felt all week that we were in a good place and it was good to see that come to fruition, all the hard work we've over the last four to five weeks.

"We were probably relaxed from about 75 minutes on. It was nice in that last five minutes or so to enjoy it, to see all our families and the kids in front of us. That was good."

Scrum V: 2023 Rugby World Cup

It was a dark day for the Wallabies Sean, here's what head coach Eddie Jones said last night on his future:

"I came back to Australia trying to help. At the moment I am not giving much help am I? But that doesn't mean my commitment to helping has changed.

"I am a proud Australian, I hate to see Australian rugby do as poorly as we have been doing, particularly under my reign.

"It's not only the Wallabies we have got to improve, we've got to treat the whole system of Australian rugby.

"It's not an excuse but we've got to have a really good look at ourselves and see what we've got to do to improve."

Because from an Australian perspective it really was the darkest day.

My three words 'Warren was right', because he said we'd win.

  15. Anscombe 'stepped up' - Gatlandpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 25 September 2023

Scrum V: 2023 Rugby World Cup

Wales head coach Warren Gatland on Gareth Anscombe's man of the match performance: "He really stepped up tonight.

"He was a bit rusty against Portugal but we've picked him for his experience and he controlled the game well.

    "We've got two experienced 10s and a young, up-and-coming 10 so we're in a pretty good place.

"It was pleasing to see him goal-kick that well and I thought he made some really good decisions."

COME ON WALES! - I have typed and deleted this message about 20 times! Can’t believe I have now posted it! Amazing what World Cups do to you.

    Paul James, external

    Class - Jac Morgan unbelievable!

    Bernard Foley, external

It didn’t have to be like this!

    Andy Nicol, external

Well played @WelshRugbyUnion that is some result. Goodbye Eddie!

    Jonathan Davies, external

Wales good tonight very tactically astute and clinical. Sorry but this is the worse Australia side I’ve ever seen.

    Matt Giteau, external

Shattered for @wallabies but congrats to my Valley friends. Wales too good on the night. Hard to believe we will miss out on the final stages. Press conference could be anything with Eddie. If anyone was to knock us out, I’m glad it’s the Welsh

    David Campese, external

Rock bottom for @wallabies. I have been predicting this for years after seeing the lack of rugby IQ and skills in grassroots in Australia. I've been warning “the powers that” be but nobody listens

    Tom Shanklin, external

Now that is a result. Best I’ve seen @WelshRugbyUnion lads play in a pressure situation for long long time. Gives us huge belief. Credit to players and coaching staff.

  18. Biggar injury 'not significant' - Gatlandpublished at 08:54 British Summer Time 25 September 2023

Scrum V: 2023 Rugby World Cup

We're getting an update on Dan Biggar this morning but here's what Wales head coach Warren Gatland said last night:

"Dan's stretched his pec, we are not too sure.

"I haven't spoken to the medics but I spoke to Dan and they are saying it is probably a couple of weeks.

"We have got 13 days' break before we take on Georgia so that potentially rules him out of that match, just to recover.

"It's not a significant injury, just a strain."

  20. Jones takes 'full responsibility'published at 08:50 British Summer Time 25 September 2023

Scrum V: 2023 Rugby World Cup

Australia head coach Eddie Jones on the result: Firstly, I would just like to apologise to all the Australian supporters.

Our performance was not up to the standard that was required. I apologise for that. I take full responsibility for it.

We are disappointed, we have a young team in there very disappointed.

They tried their hearts out but unfortunately at the moment we don't have consistency in our play to put pressure on teams like Wales.

We do some good things and then fall away. It's very disappointing.
