    England are punished.

Canada kick the penalty from a line-out, and from that get the forwards rolling.

Hooker Emily Tuttosi is the woman to touch down from the back of the maul, excellent try.

The conversion is missed however, so England retain their lead.

    England 7-0 Canada

England try to put together a strong attacking move from that situation - but it falls on another knock-on, this time by Catherine O'Donnell.

It's England 9-3 Canada in handling errors so far. Not good.

    England 7-0 Canada

The handling errors continue to come from both sides, the match is being played primarily through scrums so far.

Ellie Kildunne attempts to inspire her side with a superb 50-22 kick, which gets the Red Roses in a strong position.

Hmm, England aren't perfect with the hands either.

A good move breaks down when Abby Dow is sent a hospital pass by her boot laces and the ball is knocked forward.

Canada are showing some good invention and intent, but handling errors are really costing them.

Against the world's number one ranked side, they are doubly costly.

    England 7-0 Canada

Canada look to respond, they get a line-out in a good location.

An England hand gets to it but knocks on, so scrum Canada.

    England 7-0 Canada

That try was an absolute gift for England - the grubber kick from midfield was ambitious but hopeful, and at least three Canadian defenders allowed the ball to bounce past or through them.

England look much more settled now.

  13. converted try

Converted try - England 7-0 Canadapublished at 10 mins

    Ellie Kildunne (con Holly Aitchison)

Looking at the replays, the referee is proved correct - it was Ellie Kildunne, the England full-back, who grounded the ball after the Canadian player just couldn't control it!

It's an absolute nightmare for Kildunne's opposite number, Sarah-Maude Lachance. She completely failed to deal with the bouncing ball, it squirmed through her arms and the England number 15 was quick to capitalise.

    Holly Aitchison converts.

    England 0-0 Canada

Oh, is this an England try!

A clever grubber kick through is terribly dealt with by the Canadian defence, and referee Maggie Cogger-Orr thinks England grounded it.

    It goes to TMO.

I think the Red Roses will win 35-25 today. As a tournament as a whole, I support this great tournament. I can’t wait to see what’s to come.

Very side point - I'm a big fan of the yellow and pink branding of the WXV tournament. Reminds me of those old Fruit Salad sweets.

England have the first line-out of the game, which they take with ease.

    England v Canada (07:00 BST)

The players are out on the pitch at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, which you might recognise as a venue from the Fifa Women's World Cup in the summer.

It's not exactly full, but the players got a good reception from the spectators who are there in south New Zealand.
