  1. Goodbye!published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2023

    FT: Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

Well, what a result for Glasgow. Not the result that Franco Smith would have wanted, but a huge win.

A lot of his young guns showed they can - just about - hack it on the European stage and they should be far better players after that game. Alex Samuel and Gregor Brown impressed, and Max Williamson got some more valuable minutes.

There was a star turn from a fringe player, too. Ally Miller - somehow only in his 20th game for Glasgow - won Player of the Match. Plenty to smile about, but plenty to mull over too, for the Glasgow head coach.

    Until next time. Stay safe.

  2. 'Massive result'published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2023

    FT: Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

They have outscored a French team at home which not many teams do. The less experienced guys did really well.

Angus Fraser is a tough one, the way he played was not good enough at this level but they will work on that. It was not all his fault but the three squint feeds he did were definitely his fault.

The one weakness Glasgow had was that they couldn't close out tight games whereas now they are winning the one pointers and the two pointers and they are finally getting a bit of luck. You need that and you take it.

They showed a lot of heart and resilience and that always bodes well for future games and national games. It is a massive result, not a great game but a massive result.

  3. 'Good feet for a big man'published at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2023

    FT: Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

Player of the Match Ally Miller tells TNT Sports: "We talked about our reaction [to the Northampton loss] during the week. We knew it would be a big challenge coming here, the crowd would be immense, on top of us the whole game. We tried to keep it as quiet as possible - it didn't work.

"I used to be on the Sevens circuit, so I was watching the French sevens today! It was a good team performance, we got the ball wide and it paid off."

  4. 'One of the best results in Glasgow's history'published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2023

    FT: Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriros

Oh my word what a result. How they won that game? In the second half, territorially, they were all over Bayonne but their lineouts were a shambles.

How they defended at the end, it is sometimes a more satisfying win. To go into the cauldron at Bayonne and win after that performance last week, what a result.

I thought Gregor Brown and Alex Samuel played well. The boys that you wouldn't expect really stuck out.

With that team that they put out, with the team that Bayonne put out, to get a one point victory is some result. It is probably one of the best in Glasgow's history.

Bayonne's play was individual, could one guy get that magic moment? In the end I think Glasgow got what they deserved.

Elsewhere, Northampton Saints beat Toulon at Franklin's Gardens to make it two wins from two games, and go top of Pool B in the Champions Cup.

Back in France, Ally Miller is awarded Player of the Match and is handed a cuddly zebra. Don't ask. We'll have his reaction shortly.

  6. Glasgow beat Bayonne by a single point for Champions Cup winpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2023

I don't know how they've done it. It looked like they'd throw that away. They missed so many chances, and the set piece fell apart in the final half hour.

But they've done it, with one final terrific defensive set with a turnover in the dying seconds.

They somehow held Bayonne at bay. What a statement. The first visiting team to win at Stade Jean Dauger this season. A Champions Cup win that keeps their hopes of progression alive.

Bayonne are absolutely battering this Glasgow defence, but can they break the door down? The clock is red!

Thomas Dolhagaray is in the pocket. Meanwhile the forwards truck it towards the line.

IT'S TURNED OVER! GLASGOW HAVE IT! THEY KICK IT OUT! THEY WIN!

It's thrown away again! Bayonne have the ball in their own half with just over a minute remaining. They break and they're into Glasgow territory!

No French team has come here and won this year. Can Bayonne do it?

If Glasgow get out of this with a victory with the way the lineouts have gone in the last 25 minutes it will be remarkable.

A knock-on the middle of the pitch. Glasgow to put in. They need to win this scrum, but Bayonne battered them in the last one.

Huge pressure on that front row. They survive, and win a penalty for offside.

The finish line is in sight.

  11. Missed penaltypublished at 74 mins

    Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

Bayonne's scrum results in a penalty advantage. Maxime Machenaud chips over the top and Josh McKay has to dot down behind his own line.

We come all the way back to the halfway line, and Reece Hodge fancies another crack at this. Can he be the matchwinner on debut?

This one is... wide! This time it goes left! My goodness!

Angus Fraser finds Bayonne hands again. Chance gone. They've passed up so many opportunities tonight.

Another throw for Glasgow, now on the halfway... throw not straight. This isn't pretty to watch.

  13. Glasgow edge closerpublished at 70 mins

    Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

Superb spot from Adam Leal. Arthur Itturia catches Ross Thompson with a shoulder when the young fly-half lands a 50-22. Just a penalty.

There's a break in play as confusion descends between Glasgow's physios and the refs. No HIA for Thompson, who kicks into the corner.

5m out - what can they do?

  14. Postpublished at 69 mins

It's a great stab forward from Sione Tuipulotu and it forces Maxime Machenaud - fresh on the pitch - to bundle the ball out in his own 22m.

Angus Fraser's throw is poor though. That's his fourth - and none have gone to Glasgow hands.

Bayonne kick it out, but Fraser finally finds the gigantic Richie Gray. That'll settle him.

  15. Missed penaltypublished at 65 mins

    Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

Oh dear. Glasgow concede a penalty about 3m inside the Bayonne half and Reece Hodge immediately calls for the kicking tee. He's got a cannon of a boot, this is within range and it's dead centre.

But he goes right! The distance was fine, worryingly.

Because the referee had given the try, you have got to have enough evidence to then not [give it].

It was a great try from Glasgow.

  18. Glasgow's young guns all on... and Oli Kebblepublished at 61 mins

    Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriors

Gregor Brown suffers a sore one to his knee in the tackle, but he stays on. Ahead of him, Max Williamson is on for Alex Samuel.

Meanwhile, Angus Fraser is on, but his first throw isn't a good one. Get the first nervy one out the way young man, it didn't matter there anyway. Bayonne knock-on, Glasgow scrum.

Nathan McBeth are Oli Kebble are also on as the entire front row is replaced.

  19. try

Try Bayonne 11-12 Glasgow Warriorspublished at 56 mins

    Josh McKay

Glasgow burrow for the line and then throw a huge pass wide. Josh McKay should run this in, but he leaps for the skies and Reece Hodge tackles him.

McKay touches down... or does he? It sort of looks like he drops it, but there's no clear separation. Try given!

It's Thompson from out wide on the left... and it's way off target. Just a point in it.

  20. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Peter Wright

Glasgow have actually been fairly dominant in this second half and yet they have got nothing to show for it.

At this level in Europe you have got to make the most of the pressure and territory that you can create.
