  2. 'We are gutted' - Monaghanpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 31 March

    FT: Ireland 21-27 Italy

Ireland captain Sam Monaghan: "We are gutted, we had every belief that we would win that game today. I can't fault the intent from the girls we fought to the end but we weren't clinical in the right areas of the pitch. We need to be more clinical when we are on top of them.

"Our handling errors let us down in pressure situations so we need to work on that. That is going to be in the forefront of our minds ahead of Wales."

  3. 'We lacked the accuracy' Bedmandpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 31 March

    FT: Ireland 21-27 Italy

Ireland head coach Scott Bemand: "We're pretty disappointed, we had plenty of possession and plenty of territory but we just lacked that clinical accuracy when it really mattered.

"The first couple of tries they were given entries into our half through double penalties. Italy are a good team, I think we put more than enough out there to score more points than we did and we have to get used to being under pressure and take our chances when we earn them.

"We want to show the people of Ireland that we are here to fire shots. The game hasn't gone the way we want it to, but we have fired shots and we'll get better at that.

"We have things in our control that we can improve, such as the discipline, handling errors and the breakdown."

  4. 'Great win' for Italy - Vecchinipublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 31 March

Player of the match Vittoria Vecchini: "It is a great win for us and to get the bonus point too."

On her tries: "The first try was great teamwork by the scrum, the second one was a bit lucky but I got it."

What a game of rugby, it had everything in it. For Italy, their experience told, they utilised their opportunities and got the points when they needed.

Ireland will be disappointed, they targeted this game for a win, but that losing bonus point could be crucial and they never gave up, they kept going to the end.

I was on the edge of my seat at the end, the girls will be annoyed they didn't take their chances sooner.

    Ireland 21-27 Italy

It is heartbreak for Ireland as they finish the game camped on the Italy line but the visitors force the turnover as the hosts have to settle for a losing bonus point.

They will look back at this one and rue some missed opportunities but credit must go to Italy who recovered from their hammering by England last week to get an excellent victory.

Ireland will host Wales in two weeks' time as they hunt for that elusive Women's Six Nations victory.

    Katie Corrigan (79 mins)

Ireland are back within losing bonus point range as 18 year-old Katie Corrigan intercepts a loose pass from Beatrice Burgoni to canter home and Dannah O'Brien adds the crucial extras.

Last chance saloon for Ireland but that ensures this game will have something on it right to the very end.

    Ireland 14-27 Italy

Ireland have a good spell of possession and a burst from Beibhinn Parsons brings them close to the line.

However, as has been the story of this game, a knock on from sub Aoife Dalton ends the threat.

With just three minutes remaining, is that the last chance gone for Ireland to get anything from this frustrating match?

That reprieve doesn't last long as it is Muzzo over in the corner again and this one stands. That is despite Irish claims of obstruction in the midfield but the officials are happy and Italy do have their bonus point. Rugoni pushes the conversion wide but the two-score advantage returns for the Azzurri.

    Vittoria Vecchini (57 mins)

Ireland have been made to pay for that missed opportunity as the Italian hooker gets her second of the day.

It was started by a stunning break from winger Alyssa D'Inca as she made all of 60 yards before being dragged down. However, Italy's phase play is good and, Vecchini powers her way over the line and Rugoni adds the extras via the inside of the post.

Ireland with a real mountain to climb now.

That should have been an Ireland try! After some good phases from the forwards, Nicole Fowley's long pass is dropped by Beibhinn Parsons with the line at her mercy.

Definitely one that the Connacht winger would want back.

We are 10 minutes into the second half and it has been scrappy from both teams. No real sightings of a score from either side since Corrigan in the opening seconds.

Ireland have just been gifted good territory as Beatrice Rugoni kicked out on the full. Let's see if they can take advantage.

A positive update on the injured Lauren Delaney as she is seen sitting amongst the Ireland subs. This is after she was stretchered off with a neck injury just before half-time.

As commentator Oisin Langan says: "I'm no doctor but I assume that is a good sign."
