The signing of Blair Spittal in the summer is proving to be a shrewd piece of business by Thistle boss Alan Archibald. The 21-year-old has shown terrific pace, strength and enthusiasm in the opening 45 minutes. That said the home side have Hearts keeper Jon McLaughlin to thank for their lead.
Spittal was allowed far too much time and space to get his shot on target but it should have been an easy take for the keeper. Quite how he allowed the ball to slip through his grasp then his legs only he will know.
He has looked suspect on another couple of occasions with only a last gasp header off the line by Smith deny Thistle a second after McLaughlin was slow to come for a cross. Thistle look very good going forward but while the lead remains at 1-0, Hearts will still feel they have a chance.
