Kilmarnock are suited to playing away from home. Killie will sit in and play tight. The first goal will be crucial. If Killie get in front it will be hard for Rangers.

Kilmarnock make sure teams they play against have very little space. Killie are so strong defensively- their shape, their work rate. They do a lot of pressing the game. They'll make it difficult for Rangers, who are under pressure tonight.

  7. Cup or nothing?published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2019

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (19:45)

With Celtic pulling eight points clear in the Premiership last weekend, it looks difficult for any side to stop them winning another title this season. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been quoted this week, external as conceding the Scottish Cup is now their best chance of a trophy, and the same can be said for Kilmarnock.

This game then, suddenly takes on even greater significance.

    Quote Message

Glen Kamara excels sitting in front of the back-four. He takes the ball anywhere. He's so brave and so quick. Ross McCrorie is more of a destroyer; Glen is a better footballer. Once he finds a place in this team and deals with the expectation levels, they won't remove him from the side. I don't think Rangers have a player like him.

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (19:45)

Steve Clarke and Steven Gerrard know each other well, Clarke having been assistant boss at Liverpool during Gerrard's playing days. They enjoyed a bit of a verbal spat a few weeks ago when Clarke insinuated Rangers' Jermain Defoe took a tumble to win a penalty against St Mirren.

On the pitch they've had a few good battles already in Scotland. The record stands at one win each and two draws. Even-Stevens, you might say. Who will edge ahead tonight?

  10. Can Killie end Scottish Cup hoodoo?published at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2019

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (19:45)

It's 81 years since Kilmarnock last beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup- April 1938, when Jimmy McGrory was manager. That match was a semi-final at Ibrox, as Killie progressed to the final before losing to East Fife 4-2 after extra-time in a replay.

Can they secure an historic result at Ibrox tonight?

  11. Aberdeen await winner in quarter-finalspublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2019

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (19:45)

The winner of tonight's match will complete the Scottish Cup quarter-final line-up, and will travel to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen next.

Last night Inverness Caley Thistle beat rivals Ross County on penalties after a cracking cup tie which finished 2-2 after extra-time. Let's hope for a similar feast of football tonight!

  12. El Buffalo returnspublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2019

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (19:45)

Top scorer Alfredo Morelos is back in the Rangers line-up as the third match of his three-game ban is to be served in the Premiership- just in time as far as Steven Gerrard is concerned. The Colombian, who has 23 goals in all competitions, has missed the last two games and Rangers have failed to score in both of them.

Indeed domestically this season Rangers have only mustered two goals in the five matches Morelos has missed. It doesn't take a genius to work out he could be key for the hosts tonight!

  13. Jack and Arfield start for Rangerspublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2019

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (19:45)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said after Saturday's goalless draw with St Johnstone that he would make changes for tonight's clash, and he didn't hold back in his criticism of the performance.

As it turns out, he's made three changes to his XI. Both Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield are fit and play in centre midfield in place of Ross McCrorie and Steven Davis. And crucially top scorer Alfredo Morelos is available and starts instead of Jermain Defoe up top. Defoe is on the bench.

As for Kilmarnock, Steve Clarke makes just the two alterations after Sunday's last-gasp defeat to Celtic. In comes Alex Bruce in defence for the suspended Kirk Broadfoot, and Youssuf Mulumbu replaces Rangers-bound Jordan Jones, who's among the substitutes.
