Since 1980, the final of the World Championship has been the first to 18 frames.

These are the biggest winning margins since then and Ding needs to win two more frames to avoid a place in the record books, for all the wrong reasons.

A bit nervy at the start of the second session. A shake of the head from Ding after he gets a positional shot wrong.

Some awkward cueing over a red sees a shot on another red miss. Selby is 29-22 ahead so far, but there is a long way to go in this one.

It will be interesting to see how Mark Selby comes out for the second session. Most of his, in this tournament, have been poor. A lot of his opponents have come out in the second session and come back at him.

Just a quick recap in case you missed it earlier.

Mark Selby, a world champion two years ago, took the opening six frames of the afternoon session to stun Ding Junhui in his first world final.

But the Chinese ended strongly, taking both of the last two frames.

Karen Langley: What a great first session of snooker.

Jonesy: 6-2 at the end of the first session and Ding has the door ajar now, he's got to stop Selby's anti-snooker.

Ant: 6-2 is not a disaster by any means for Ding.

Elliot J Cornish: To get out of that 2-6 considering he was a millimetre or two from 0-7 can only be considered a result for Ding. Win 6-3 tonight and it becomes 8-9.

"We said earlier in the week that Mark Selby is in eco mode, but he's on full cycle now.

"Selby will be annoyed he's not 7-0 up, especially when he had the chance, but he will be happy with the 6-2 lead. Ding will also be happy that it's not 8-0."

Mark Selby 6-2 Ding Junhui (14-108)

It has not been the best few hours for Ding, but he ends it on a high note by taking the last two frames.

Selby can't do anything from a tough position and Ding needed a couple of chances in the final frame of the first session but wraps it up with a score of 41.

But overall, Selby will be absolutely delighted with his afternoon's work.

This is going to take some saving to pull this frame out of the fire. With the black snuck against the side cushion, Selby trails 52 with three reds left.

We are just getting glimpses of the real Ding, it is just a question of whether he can settle himself to play free of the pressure he seems to put on himself.

After losing the first six frames of the day, he looks good to take the final two of the session.

Stephen Hendry expected a big break from Ding in this frame and the Chinese will be kicking himself that his efforts come to an end at 31.

As this graphic shows, he was just the wrong side of the blue to be able to go into the pack of reds, so he has to settle for potting the blue and leaving the cueball safe.

    Selby, your move.
