What a shot Ronnie played into the middle to pot the pink. He looked out of position but produced a fantastic piece of cueing. It was a perfect shot.

It's an awkward game if the other guy gets the run of the cue ball and you are not quite at it. Trump upped his game in the afternoon session and Ronnie's dipped.

    Frame 26: O'Sullivan 15-11 Trump

A break of 82 gives Ronnie O'Sullivan the perfect start to the evening session.

Three frames from a seventh, record-equalling modern-era world title.

    Frame 26: O'Sullivan 14-11 Trump

Ronnie certainly starting like he really wants it.

What a shot off a virtually straight pink into the middle - screws back off two cushions into the remaining reds.

Frame at his mercy with a 40-point lead.

Voice of the Mysterons: Great 6-2 session by Trump, the only problem is that he's got to effectively do it again (maximum of 7-3) if he's going to get his hands on the trophy. Might boil down to how much Ronnie *really* wants Number Seven.

David: Always dangerous for Ronnie cos he only switches on when he has a challenge! If Trump goes in front he might start to play!

    Frame 26: O'Sullivan 14-11 Trump

Judd Trump could not turn that opening pot into a decent break-building opportunity with the reds tightly bunched.

After a brief bout of safety, Ronnie O'Sullivan knocks in a long red - then a mid-range blue wobbles in off the corner jaw.

    Frame 26: O'Sullivan 14-11 Trump

O'Sullivan's attempted safety, his first shot of the night, is not great.

It leaves Judd Trump a red with the rest.

There's some noise in the crowd - bleeping from some of device - but Trump composes himself to pot the red.

We seem to be saying it every frame - but this one is a big one.

Either Judd closes to 14-12 or Ronnie extends to 15-11 - in first-to-18 this seems massive.

Ronnie has deflected the pressure very well but he has it everywhere he goes - 'when are you going to equal the record?'

It's there and you can't ignore it. It's one of the biggest nights of his snooker career and he is under pressure for the first time this championship.

You normally have one dodgy session in a final and I wonder if that was Ronnie's this afternoon.

  11. More records to tumble?published at 19:06 British Summer Time 2 May 2022

    O'Sullivan 14-11 Trump

Of course, the BIG record is the one everyone is interested in tonight.

    But others could fall too.

Ronnie O'Sullivan needs two century breaks to eclipse the record number of tons by a single player during a World Championship - he's on 15 and the mark, jointly held by Stephen Hendry and Mark Williams, stands at 16.

This year's event has also equalled the record amount of total tons - 108, set last year - and there are several frames left for either player, or both, to set a new mark.

Snooker Looper: As a 30-year Ronnie fan, I could barely eat the dinner just now. Feels like he's 14-11 down. One more inspirational session and then we can finally breathe after a 23-year chase.

Chox: Looking forward to the final session of the snooker tonight. I think the first four frames will be key. If Judd Trump doesn’t win at least three of them then I think Ronnie O’Sullivan should get over the line.

    O'Sullivan 14-11 Trump

Good evening and welcome back to what, potentially, promises to be an enthralling evening of snooker at the Crucible.

When we all went to bed on Sunday evening, it appeared the 'Rocket', Ronnie O'Sullivan, simply had to turn up today to earn a record-equalling seventh world title, armed with a 12-5 overnight lead over Judd Trump.

However, Trump - seeking a second Crucible crown of his own - has fought back valiantly, reducing his deficit to 14-11 heading into tonight's fourth and final session.

The Rocket remains the favourite to enter the history books but has the 'Ace in the Pack' got a final card to play?

Well, that was a turn up for the books, wasn't it?

After last night's dominance, most people expected Ronnie O'Sullivan to canter to a record-equalling seventh world title today.

But the 'Rocket' has been just as out of sorts today as Judd Trump was yesterday - and this time it was the 'Ace in the Pack' punishing mistakes.

Can he complete one of the greatest Crucible final turnarounds of all time or will Ronnie regain his composure to move into the record books?

Trump was gone last night. He had his head in his hands, he was missing long pots by big distances and blacks off the spot. The match was over so all credit to him.

    That was a champion's performance.

PB: Even if technically there have been more outrageous ones, that has to be fluke of the tournament.

Noel: I just feel this match has a feel of going to a deciding frame. Fair play to Trump playing well but Ronnie has let him in. Under pressure this tournament Judd has underperformed. This is the ultimate test of Ronnie’s mental strength not his snooker talent.
