    Frame 23: O'Sullivan 13-9 Trump

Well, Trump remains in with a chance in this 23rd frame.

O'Sullivan could not capitalise on that opportunity, missing a mid-range red and now the players are embroiled in a relatively lengthy safety battle with three reds all tucked up near each other on the black cushion.

  2. 'Trump relieved, relaxed and focused'published at 15:17 British Summer Time 2 May 2022

    O'Sullivan 13-9 Trump

Trump's friend and fellow pro Jack Lisowski visited Judd in his dressing room during the interval. How was he?

"Judd was eating a doughnut and chilling out. He's relieved because he wants to make it a close game and more than anything he wants to win it," Lisowski said.

"He looks more relaxed out there now and is playing much better.

"He's dropped some of the power on his shots and looks more accurate and maybe more focused. Perhaps he was a bit tired yesterday and is playing more like the Judd Trump we know today."

    Frame 23: O'Sullivan 13-9 Trump

Judd Trump is not immune to it either though - a tricky red with the spider is negotiated but it leaves a tougher black than he would have wanted, and he misses off the far jaw.

O'Sullivan is relishing this second chance, 13 ahead and counting.

2005 world champion on BBC Two

Ronnie O'Sullivan, for all his greatness, and great achievements - arguably the most decorated player we've ever seen - he's not immune to pressure, to nerves.

This is possibly the biggest day of his snooker life today to reach that seventh world title and equal Stephen Hendry's record, so maybe he's feeling it a little bit.

    Frame 23: O'Sullivan 13-9 Trump

Another miss from O'Sullivan, though - he breaks down on 16, missing a red to the middle.

The Rocket is really struggling for fluency this afternoon.

    Can Trump punish him?

    Frame 23: O'Sullivan 13-9 Trump

A bit of fortune for the Rocket.

A loose shot almost leaves Judd Trump an easy red at the baulk end of the table - but the yellow is ever so slightly in the way. He has to swerve it marginally and doesn't judge it right, leaving the Rocket a gimme.

  8. Trump back within fourpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 2 May 2022

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-9 Trump

Judd Trump began today's session trailing by seven frames. That deficit is again down to four.

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

Trump wins the tactical exchange as O'Sullivan leaves a red near the corner, albeit with hampered cueing.

Lovely shot from Judd to pot it clean and he now needs the penultimate red to leave Ronnie needing snookers.

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

Another red wobbles, this time in the corner pocket - but again it drops!

The break ends soon after, following an errant positional shot but Trump leads 43-20 and tucks O'Sullivan right behind the green.

Good escape by Ronnie, leaving Trump only a safety.

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

    John Virgo
1979 UK Championship winner on BBC Two

All the reds he needs are nicely in the open - I think he can do it without playing any risky cannons.

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

Ooooooh. Ronnie also misses a cut, on a red, and leaves Trump a very nervy red to middle that wobbles in the jaws - and drops!

A big chance for the Bristolian.

  13. 'Herculean effort from Trump'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 2 May 2022

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

    Shaun Murphy
2005 world champion on BBC Two

It would have been a Herculean effort from Trump and his team to get up for this today he was so far behind. It would have taken so much energy to get himself up and feeling positive for the session.

I just hope losing the fourth frame of the first session hasn't knocked the wind out of his sails.

    Frame 22: O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

We're back under way - and a bit of drama already.

A poor break-off from Trump leaves Ronnie a makeable long red.

He misses and leaves it for Trump but the 2019 champion is well short with an attempted cut on the black to follow.

  15. 'Make Ronnie work for it'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 2 May 2022

    O'Sullivan 13-8 Trump

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Judd was playing well in the first session and will have to come out and start again. The key things will be don't make unforced errors, don't miss easy shots. Make Ronnie work for it.

  16. 'Timely frame for the Rocket'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 2 May 2022

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport reporter at the Crucible Theatre

That was a very timely frame for Ronnie O'Sullivan as Judd Trump looked like he was getting into the groove before attempting and missing that plant into the middle pocket.

A camera crew have been following the six-time world champion around this term and with him being mic'd up here they will be hoping for some very juicy content with the match definitely going into an evening session.

With Trump still five frames back you'd have thought he'd need to win at least two more this afternoon session for there to be any chance of a dramatic finale.
