Just three frames stand between Luca Brecel and a first ever World Championship.

Well, and the small matter of four-time champion Mark Selby, of course.

Will the Belgian become the first player from mainland Europe to claim the Crucible crown?

What Luca's got, to back up his cause to win this, is how he's come through this tournament.

The players he's beaten - Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan, he was 14-5 down to Si Jiahui in the semi-final - he's got that inner strength to call on, that confidence.

If you know that, in extreme adversity you can call on that, it's hard to beat.

We've been waiting for this for a long time from Luca - we've all known how talented he is and how good he is.

I think that session of snooker today from Luca in the most impressive batch of frames he's ever produced.

More impressive on the 11 on the spin [against Si] or the seven on the spin to beat O'Sullivan - because of last night, to go through what he did and lose his lead, to only be one ahead.

To then stand up and win the session 6-2, that's the most impressive I've ever seen from Luca Brecel.

It's a huge task now for Mark Selby - we always say you're going to need help from your opponent if you're going to come back from this kind of deficit. And I don't see it.

He's not been able to string frames together this afternoon, Mark Selby. He's not been able to get any momentum in this match.

But it's a huge three hours for Luca and the people around him, just to keep in the moment and not get ahead of themselves - there's a long way to go.

Quite astonishing. Luca looks bulletproof. Mark has thrown everything at him and Luca hasn't folded one little bit.

The only chance Mark has got is if Luca sees the finishing line too early.

Blue floated in and the pink to follow.

What a frame to win, the kind Mark Selby usually pinches.

Luca Brecel needs just three frames tonight to be crowned world champion.

Doesn't matter where the object balls are.

Luca Brecel has the cue ball on a string, just the blue to leave Selby needing a snooker.

Huge moments in a huge frame.

Luca Brecel is five points behind, blue off the last red will leave him dead level - meaning he'll need yellow to blue. But the yellow's on the green spot, the green near the black...

Selby escapes the snooker but leaves a long red that Luca Brecel despatches superbly.

Mark Selby completely butchers a long red to the extent that he flies into two other reds.

Somehow he's left them safe. But now Luca Brecel has him in a snooker behind the green.

Two frames of this session have been close - and Mark Selby has won both of them.

Can Luca Brecel pinch this one to take a five-frame lead into tonight's deciding session?

It's a tough table - black and pink near cushions, as is a red. Green on the black spot. Going to take some work, this.

Chris Derham: Selby is far from his clinical self.

Having to cue over the blue, Mark Selby's 100% rest success rate remains intact as he nails a very testing red.

Oh, no, it doesn't remain 100%. He misses the next red with the rest, Brecel back at the table in this final frame of the session, 40-1 behind.

And to rub salt in the wounds he pots that very same red, using the rest.

Martin Warren: It’s fair to say this has been a world snooker final of two halves, Brecel was brilliant before the mid session interval but Selby has come back in to it deservedly. More to come I feel!

However, Selby breaks down on 22 as a yellow, fiercely struck, bounces in and around the middle pocket but comes out.

But then Luca Brecel misses an easy black - must be his worst miss of the final by far.
