36 - Erling Haaland's record Premier League goal tally as he won last season's Golden Boot.

The towering achievement in men’s football came from Manchester City as they became only the second English club to achieve an historic Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola’s side won the title for a third successive season, beat Manchester United in the FA Cup Final before emulating their arch-rivals feat from 1999 by winning the Champions League for the first time, beating Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul, Rodri’s goal proving the difference.
There continue to be questions over City’s 115 charges of alleged breaches of financial regulations – which the club vehemently denies and will contest robustly – but on the pitch they were peerless and boasted the Premier League latest superstar in striker Erling Haaland.
Haaland made a devastating impact in his debut season, scoring 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions, winning the prestigious Football Writers’ Association Footballer Of The Year award, claiming a mammoth 82% of the votes cast.
Time for a look back on what happened in the world of football in 2023, on a domestic scale for now at least, and there was a terrific Treble for Manchester City...

I was lucky enough to be at two great sporting occasions this year. Firstly, at Wembley for Leigh Leopard's historic Challenge Cup final win. My nerves were shredded as the game went into extra time. Secondly I was at Ascot for Frankie Dettori's epic last ride in the UK on King of Steel. The chants of 'Oh, Frankie Detttori' as he came back into the winners enclosure will live long in the memory for certain. Great times

Among Frankie Dettori's final victories on UK soil were two Classics - the 2000 Guineas on Chaldean and the Oaks on Soul Sister.
The 53-year-old's other successes included the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on Courage Mon Ami, and the Coronation Cup at Epsom on Emily Upjohn.
His final UK meeting was Champions Day at Ascot and, needless to say, it brought more glory.
Having already won the opening race on the card, he bowed out with a last-to-first victory on King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes in his final ride on British soil before moving to the United States.
Frankie Dettori celebrated his farewell tour in his final year racing in the UK with a host of big wins, doing so in his customary flamboyant style.

Frankie Dettori performed a late U-turn on his decision to retire but helped provide some memorable moments in 2023.
He won the 2,000 Guineas on Chaldean, the Oaks with Soul Sister, the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot aboard Courage Mon Ami and the Champion Stakes on King Of Steel in his farewell British ride before heading for the United States.
Auguste Rodin gave trainer Aidan O’Brien a record-extending ninth Derby win at Epsom while Ace Impact took the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Corach Rambler won the Grand National after the race was delayed by 14 minutes when animal rights protesters stormed the track.
Constitution Hill was described as ‘the horse of a generation’ following a breathtaking Champion Hurdle victory, while Galopin Des Champs won the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
20 - Katarina Johnson-Thompson won her second world heptathlon title by just 20 points after hanging on to Anna Hall in the final 800m event in Budapest.
BBC One
World heptathlon champion and Sports Personality of the Year 2023 nominee Katarina Johnson-Thompson speaking on BBC One:
"It's really the strength from the team around me and that shows with the support. My coach, my partner, my mum and Denise [Lewis] and some of my training partners rallied around me and gave me the confidence that I didn't see in myself at my lowest moment. They reminded me every day of the athlete I am.
"Going into this year I had nothing to lose, I've seen rock bottom in many different forms - through injury or just bad performances - and I didn't want the perception of me to be what you saw in Tokyo.
"When I came back from those Olympics it was a lot of sympathy and my mantra was I'm not going to go out like this. Even if it didn't end in gold, which of course I'm happy that it did, but I can still stand here and say that through the injury and the heartbreak you can still have a career."
On what it would mean to win Olympic gold in Paris 2024: "I was there to witness Jess [Ennis] doing her victory lap and she was a huge inspiration and I wanted that for myself. I haven't' had that yet and Denise [Lewis] has been such a rock in my career as well so I would love to have that ending."
Meanwhile, Britain said its final farewell to distance running great Mo Farah.
The four-time Olympic champion brought the curtain down on his illustrious career at the Great North Run in September following a goodbye tour which also included a final outing in the London Marathon.
"I am proud of what I've accomplished but at the same time I'm looking forward to being a parent and just a normal person," Farah told BBC Sport prior to his final race.
Farah reties as a four-time Olympic champion, with 10 global titles in all.

No doubt Broady's fairytale ending for me, I was at the game!

We'll bring you the thoughts of Katarina Johnson-Thompson shortly.
First though, there are two other world champions present in the crowd this evening. Let's hear from Josh Kerr and Hannah Cockroft.
On being crowned 1500m world champion, Josh Kerr said: "It takes some getting used to!
"It was a very special moment. Now I'm getting used to being called world champion."
Reflecting on her achievements this year and the events coming in 2024, Hannah Cockroft said: "We've got a big year coming up, so everything to play for and a lot of pressure on my shoulders, but I'm thriving on it and I'm looking forward to it."
What a year it was for Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
The Liverpudlian edged out Anna Hall of the United States by just 20 points following a titanic battle in Budapest as she won her second world title in sensational style.
She was 93 points behind at the end of day one but roared back the following morning by posting a huge long jump of 6.54m, and a personal best in the javelin.
Johnson-Thompson then recorded another PB in the final event, the 800m, to secure an emotional gold.
That success came after injury troubles had blighted her career since tearing her Achilles shorty after her first world gold in 2019, which led her to questioning her future in the sport.
Winning her second heptathlon World Championship title in 2023, Katarina Johnson-Thompson completed a remarkable turnaround in her career in Budapest.
And it has earned her a place on this year's Sports Personality of the Year shortlist.

With just over 250 days to go to the start of the Paris Paralympics, British competitors continued to enjoy plenty of success in 2023 across many sports with European and World titles claimed and Games qualification spots secured.
There were strong performances at the Para-athletics Worlds in Paris in July as GB finished fourth in the medal table, claiming 10 golds and 29 medals in total. Among the highlights was a clean sweep in the women’s T34 100m with Hannah Cockroft leading home team-mates Kare Adenegan and Fabienne Andre.
Meanwhile, the Para-swimming team made home advantage count at the Worlds in Manchester, winning 38 medals, including 14 golds, with the likes of Ellie Challis, Bethany Firth and Maisie Summers-Newton among the stars.
GB were second in the medal table in Tokyo and will hope to match that on French soil next summer.

As world records tumbled and the sport’s biggest names put down statement performances in 2023, the World Athletics Championships promised to be spectacular - and they did not disappoint. Across nine days of fierce competition, the world’s best lit up Budapest and hinted at the fireworks which could await at Paris 2024.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson completed her redemption story with heptathlon gold and Josh Kerr stunned favourite Jakob Ingebrigtsen to take the 1500m title as GB equalled their best-ever Worlds medal haul. Among Britain's other medallists, rising 800m star Keely Hodgkinson claimed her third global medal at the age of 21, once again underlining her frightening potential.
American sprinter Noah Lyles backed up his off-track talk with the three golds he sought, while compatriot Sha’Carri Richardson announced herself on the global stage as two of the sport’s emerging personalities asserted themselves at the top of the sport.
But nobody enjoyed 2023 more than the remarkable Faith Kipyegon, who set three world records and won two world titles.
"I've always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career. This club is defined by its winning mentality - it feels very good to be here." - England striker Harry Kane after completing his £100m move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich.
