Former French Open champion Virginia Ruzici from Romania, who is now Simona Halep's manager tells BBC Radio 5 Live: "We haven't had a semi-finalist since Ilie Nastase, which is a long time ago.

"She is a very talented player and that is what I saw in her six years ago when she won the French Open juniors. She is a natural athlete, very fast and moves easily without effort. But things have come fast in the last year with her reaching the French Open final. She played a fantastic match then and has come here full of confidence.

"That final will help her a lot here. Now she is more used to being on the Centre Court. Even though she lost in Paris, she played well. She needed a bit of adjustment with her footwork here but she is more mature and that should give her an advantage in this match."

"I love the tradition of Wimbledon and all the prestige that comes with it, I think it is my favourite tournament."

Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

"Petra Kvitova is just having a fantastic tournament. This is her first final of the year and is really starting to come into play. This has been the tournament of Safarova's life and she did a terrific job, especially in the first set and handled the situation beautifully.

It's nice to see such a big smile on Kvitova's face. It was difficult playing someone who she knows so well and she seemed to be more nervous at the start of the match but she handled it well."
