American doubles specialist Eric Butorac: "I didn't see that coming after the first set. Sousa made a good tactical change to swing aggressively and play more high-risk tennis in that set."

  2. Sousa wins second set - Murray 6-2 4-6 Sousa*published at 16:27 British Summer Time 28 May 2015

Andy Murray looks like a man attempting to erect a tent in a high wind while wearing roller skates.

    In short, very frustrated.

He crouches and clenches as his forehand buries into the net to give Joao Sousa 15-30. Sousa tickles a delicate little dropper over to set up two break and set points.

And he makes the first stick!

Murray can only moonball in defence and Sousa stays cool under the steepling lob, cracking away the overhead just inside the baseline.

A hiccup for Murray or the start of some more serious indigestion?

Either way Sousa has his first set in five and a half meeting with Murray.

Novak Djokovic is face down on his towel receiving treatment from the physio on his lower back.

Doesn't look too bad though, we're told, but more precautionary.

The Serb leads Gilles Muller 6-1 5-4 and is about to serve for the second set.

"Calm down, Calm down," says Murray to his players box.

Their man has indeed got this little situation covered.

Thirty-all and Murray whittles, haggles and wheedles the next two points out of Sousa to get things back on serve.

"Heather Watson and Sloane Stephens drift out onto Court Seven, in the shadow of the main Chatrier stadium, the American with her headphones still firmly in place. Watson is playing in the second round for the fourth time in five years but has yet to make round three, and remains an outsider despite a 4-0 record against Stephens."

  8. Sousa breaks - Murray 3-5 Sousa *published at 16:20 British Summer Time 28 May 2015

    Well, well, well.

Joao Sousa has torpedoed Andy Murray's cruise to the third round with a break to love.

Sousa had been playing better but that break landed like a blindside haymaker. No-one saw it coming. Especially so conclusively.

Murray's rhythm has also been clogged up by a time violation warning by umpire Pascal Maria. Murray replied with eyeball daggers.

Sousa to serve for the set next.

  9. *Murray 6-2 3-4 Sousapublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 28 May 2015

Joao Sousa is making this second set awkward.

The Portuguese has twigged that backhand slice defence is not going to be enough to upset Murray. The British number one swallowed them up and spat back a string of winners in the first set.

More aggression and pace so far in the second from Sousa and it is a more convincing recipe. He holds once more...

American doubles specialist Eric Butorac: "It looks like Andy Murray is back on the front foot again, which is how he was so dominant in the first set."

Some doubt has been thrown on whether the picture that initially accompanied an earlier entry about Bradley Cooper actually was of the American actor.

If it was, he had gone to some lengths to stay incognito.

No doubt about this one though.

Paris St Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his wife are taking in some tennis. Specifically Novak Djokovic over on Suzanne Lenglen.

Anyway, back on the main stage, Andy Murray holds to love.

No one player dominating, but serve is reigning supreme.

A hold to love from Joao Sousa and the Portuguese has dropped only two points with the balls up his end of the court.

Andy Murray is not quite at the level that he began this match at.

But Joao Sousa is throwing enough free points his way to keep the scoreboard ticking along on serve.

"'Come on, Andy! Clap, clap, clap....' For such a large stadium it's remarkable how often the only voice to be heard is that of Matt Little, Murray's fitness trainer, urging his man on.

"Despite his dominance, Murray has still been throwing some trademark glowering looks and terse comments towards his player box.

"Fortunately, Little has been around long enough to know that part of his job is to absorb any negativity coming from his boss and respond with signs of encouragement. Meanwhile, a dark cloud passes overhead. And not a metaphorical one."

    Heather Watson klaxon!

The British number one will be on court seven in just a moment's time as American Madison Keys completes a win over Belinda Bencic in the preceding match.

American Sloane Stephens - who Watson has beaten in their four previous matches - is her opponent.

Andy Murray has won 20 of 25 points on serve.

Joao Sousa has not managed to put more than two of those points together in the same game though.

    On rolls the Scot.

American doubles specialist Eric Butorac: "When people criticised Murray's fitness, he became almost obsessed with getting himself into shape. With the clay courts it has been a struggle for him but this season he has got very into his clay court season and taken it as a personal challenge. You challenge Murray's will and he will come strong."
