Next up on court is Milos Raonic's match against Spain Roberto Bautista Agut.

Considering Bautista Agut has already played once today - dispatching American Donald Young in straight sets - this might be a big ask for the world number 16.

You can watch that match via this website.

But we are leaving text commentary behind.

So Andy Murray advances to face Croatia's Marin Cilic in the semi-finals.

Murray has won 10 of his 12 meetings with the world number 13, including the 2013 final.

"Andy has been so good to me the last three seasons and has given me so much insight into his professional approach to the game. It was strange to play him in a match because I am so used to facing him on a practice court."

"I am pleased with the way I played and overall it's been a positive week for me. I thought I played well but Andy is so tough to beat because he makes it so difficult for you when it really matters."

Andy Murray speaking to BBC Sport: "I train with Kyle a lot so I know how good he is. He is big, strong and when he is on, he is very tough to play against.

"I have felt that in practice and I felt that in the match. Kyle served extremelty well, but I tried to up my aggression at the start of the third set and thankfully it worked.

"Kyle is the future of the game in this country. He is doing great and it is important that he is given time and space to keep developing without too much focus on results he can go very well."

Murray also confirms that all is well physically after his spill on court. "It is just a bit of a shock when it happens," he says.

    Murray 6-4 3-6 6-1 Edmund

It was not pretty from Andy Murray.

It was full of promise from Kyle Edmund.

But - given the distance between the two's experience and base level of quality -  it is no surprise that it is still the Scot who goes through.

    Well, well.

A hiccup or some more serious indigestion?

Andy Murray offers up to two break points, but claws his way back from 15-40 to deuce.

Ivan Lendl watches on entirely impassive.

Andy Murray is locked and loaded now.

He splatters an enormous cross-court winner with his forehand on the opening point of the game.

But after planting a backhand south to give up 30-15, the Scot loses a bit of interest.

He allows Edmund to make an impression on the scoreboard, but looks like he is keeping his powder dry for a final haul over the line on serve in the next game.

Twenty minutes on the board in the third set and Andy Murray has racked up a horribly lop-sided scoreline.

Kyle Edmund managed to take that game to deuce on the Scot's serve, but it is like trying to keep a pitbull at bay with a cotton bud at the moment.

Andy Murray is tugging on the reins now, sniffing the stable and nice lie-down and warm down.

He snaps Kyle Edmund's serve to splinters and is now a double break up and two service holds away.

Kyle Edmund comes to the umpires chair to have a little chunter about the state of the court surface.

Andy Murray, this time, is happy to play on.

The crowd jeer Edmund's protests. They want to see the conclusion to this match. But they are not the ones risking their livelihoods on a greasy top.

"C'mon, let's go!" Andy Murray hollers at his players' box after breaking Kyle Edmund to love.

He gets a slow, solemn nod in response from Ivan Lendl.

This performance will not appear much in a morale-boosting best-bits montage if Lendl is planning on putting one together for his charge.

Jono: Great performance from Edmund but incredibly poor from Murray. His mental lapses show the gulf between him and Djokovic.

The Fifth Set: He may not ever reach Murray's success levels, nor should he be expected to, but British tennis is in safe hands with Edmund.

Andy Murray is having to soak up forehands behind the baseline, but you could mop the foredeck with that man he is so absorbent.

He takes the best that Edmund can throw at him, before whipping a lovely crosscourt winner to keep his paws on his own serve.

He is being made to work hard by the British number three though.

Andy Murray makes a statement of intent as rattles off the first three points for 40-0.

But Kyle Edmund is putting together a fairly persuasive manifesto as well.

The Yorkshireman pings a ball deep for a winner, before clouting a huge forehand return winner for deuce.

"Kyle Edmund will be thrilled how he came back from 15-40 in that crucial game. He played some really savvy points, as if he's the favourite for the match. He just brushed aside Murray but how much longer can he maintain that attitude?"

Anti-freeze in his veins and a tennis supercomputer on his shouders.

Kyle Edmund is the one playing like a veteran of multiple Grand Slam finals.

He stretches Andy Murray thin across the baseline with pulverising forehands, before spinning a sublime backhand down the line.

Murray cuffs his reply long and that is the set done.
