Can Kyle Edmund serve out to take this into a decider?

    Not easily he can't.

The Yorkshire man has already saved two break points and he is not out of the woods yet...

    Ooo, la, la.

Kyle Edmund with a lovely dab of drop-volley across court draws ohhs and ahhs from the crowd,

That is all very well, but - at 40-0 down - it is only showreel fodder rather than a scoreboard shifter.

Murray holds on the next point.

Andy Murray seems to be moving well enough.

Certainly well enough to battle his way to deuce on the Edmund serve.

It may be not until he wakes up tomorrow morning that the effects of that fall are evident however.

Edmund holds serve and, at the moment, this match is going long.

"How far can Edmund go? It depends on how well he can develop his defensive skills."

A crackerjack forehand out wide from Kyle Edmund and a hobbled Andy Murray is not going to bother chasing that.

The break is in the bag for the Yorkshireman.

All eyes on Andy Murray and what seems to be a tweaked hip abductor or abdominal muscle.

"Murray seems to be all right but he will definitely have strained a few sinews with that fall.

"Let's hope it doesn't develop into a niggle over the coming weeks but will disappear in a day or two."

    Uh-oh.

A fortnight flashes before the eyes of Wimbledon organisers and fans as Andy Murray goes down in a heap as he attempts to avoid a ball bulleted at him at the net by Edmund.

There was a bit of a squeal from that mess of limbs as well.

Murray is up and walking, if wincing.

    Deuce from 40-0 up.

The umpire does indeed have the gravelly delivery of Christian Bale wearing his pants outside his tights.

I like it. Adds a bit of drama to proceedings.

And you would not want to argue a line call with him...

Andy Murray finally wears down his man. That was attrition rather than brilliance, but a diamond cuts just as well as it sparkles.

    Murray 6-4 1-3 *Edmund

Andy Murray works up a break point at 30-40, but Kyle Edmund is game for the fight and some strong baseline hitting hustles the world number two out of the point.

Another break point. Again seen off by the Beverley youngster.

Kyle Edmund clambers into a forehand down the line, giving it a mighty twonk.

Andy Murray chases desperately into the corner, but cannot claw it back into play as the pace on the ball proves greater than that in his legs.

    Break point at 30-40.

Andy Murray cuffs needlessly into the net to allow Edmund through...

    Intriguing.

A bit of a downbeat start to the second set. To be honest, this match is yet to come fully to life with neither man firing on all cylinders.

The highlight is Andrew Castle's revelation on BBC Two that Kyle Edmund had a washing machine delivered to his new flat at 06:30 this morning and that Edmund's mother is staying in for another appliance tomorrow.

    Big.

"Andy Murray takes the set as the first grey cloud appears overhead, somewhat later than predicted but inevitable all the same. Murray had insisted that playing fellow Britons would not affect him but he's lacking a bit of focus so far. He might need to sharpen up if he's to beat Edmund in straight sets - and the rain."

Kyle Edmund comes scampering in like an eager puppy to run down an Andy Murray fend into front court with time to spare.

He whips away a winner, loaded with top spin, and has forced Murray to serve out for the set.

Andy Murray has not been at his best so far, with some patchy groundstrokes blotting the scorecard.

He dumps a nothing-much forehand into the net to allow Kyle Edmund 30-15 and then drifts a spinning backhand wide for 30-30.

You can't afford to give away such freebies against the likes of Novak Djokovic.

Against Kyle Edmund though, you can pack the party bag and still be celebrating.

    Oh I say.

    That is a lovely point.

Andy Murray plunges left to get his racquet to a dinky little cross-court dropper from Kyle Edmund.

Full stretch, sinews as tight as piano wires, but he still manages to control the ball off the strings, patting away into open court.

The top dog on top on the scoreboard.
