    Murray 3-3 *Edmund

Andy Murray berates himself as he strolls around at the back of the court.

"You are over-thinking your serve again," he tells himself.

Fortunately for him Kyle Edmund cannot capitalise.

"I've not seen Edmund for a while and two things strike me: his backhand has improved and he moves up into the court so much better than he did so he can take the ball early. He has clearly worked on both of those aspects."

The highest straw boater/panama hat count of the tournament so far today. People obviously getting tired of waiting for the weather and getting the summer headwear out regardless.

Those fans are enjoying the cut of the be-capped Edmund's gib. He brings up break point with a perfect forehand out wide.

Murray sees off that break chance with another big serve.

But Murray's slicing and dicing backhand drifts wide to hand Edmund parity on a second break point.

There is a familiar face in unfamiliar surroundings here in the press seats - GB Davis Cup captain Leon Smith has abandoned his usual courtside position for Murray matches as it's an all-British tie. "Neutral territory," explains Smith. "And you guys get a great view!"

"Andy Murray is such an effective returner, he gets the ball back most of the time and often into difficult positions."

    *Murray 2-1 Edmund

    Brave, bold, but ultimately foolish?

Kyle Edmund serves and volleys but walks straight into an Andy Murray sucker punch as the British kingpin whips a winner down the line.

You can't give him that much time and that big a target.

  8. Edmund saves three break pointspublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 17 June 2016

    Murray 1-1 *Edmund

Kyle Edmund cuffs a routine overhead wide and is then flummoxed by a backhand slice absolutely humming with spin from the Andy Murray racquet.

Love forty and three break points.

All back in the bag as Murray is milimetres wide with a scoop lob and then forced out to the wings by Edmund's trebuchet of a forehand.

A couple of second-round results from the Aegon Birmingham Classic and I'm afraid it's not good news for British tennis fans.

Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium has beaten British number one Johanna Konta 6-3 6-3 and Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic has defeated Heather Watson 7-5 6-4.

    Murray 1-1 *Edmund

Kyle Edmund works up a bit of a chance at 15-30 on the Andy Murray serve.

But the world number two is having none of that.

He shuts the door on the young pretender - targeting the forehand return with three big serves.

Edmund struggles to keep those returns on the leash and their owner is out of the game.

Peter Fleming on BBC Two: "It's a big match and I'm sure Kyle Edmund is nervous but it's good for him to get that first game under his belt."

    *Murray 0-1 Edmund

Kyle Edmund gets on the board with a solid hold.

He gave Andy Murray an early taste of his favourite one-two punch as well, serving big out wide and stepping in to slap away a forehand winner off the short return.

    Murray v Edmund

Kyle Edmund pounded a half-hearted Gilles Simon in the first round to claim one of the biggest wins of his career.

He got a free pass to the third round courtesy of Paul-Henri Mathieu's withdrawal through injury.

His strengths? A big first serve and a whopper of a forehand if he is allowed to stand and deliver.

His weaknesses? His touch at the net is a little heavy-handed and he perhaps could be a little sharper in his movement around court.

    Edmund to serve first.

Former British number one on BBC Two

"Players love beating records and Murray wants to win to go to five titles here. It would mean a lot to him to do it and go above the greats who have won it four times."

    Murray v Edmund

Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund troop out of the Queen's Club clubhouse and out onto the main stage.

The tournament's hype man reads out the credentials of the two players, a process that inevitably takes a look longer for Murray than it does for Edmund.

There is a little bit of a do on Centre Court in the wake of Marin Cilic's win over Steve Johnson in the match preceding Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund's arrival.

Roy Emerson, John McEnroe, Boris Becker and Lleyton Hewitt - all four-time Queen's champions - are being introduced to the crowd and given commemorative replica trophies.

But yesterday, it was all kind words and compliments as the two prepared for their All-British tete-a-tete.

Murray on Edmund: "He's got a big game, he's a strong guy and his mind is focused on tennis. That goes a long way."

Edmund on Murray: "It's very fortunate for me that he's allowed me to come into his environment and share stuff with his team, stay with him. He's been the biggest inspiration for players my age. That's the guy who we have looked up to."

    Bro-mantic.

Andy Murray has always been there to support Kyle Edmund's development as a player and a person.

Here he is kindly documenting the then-18-year-old's nerves at having to make a speech to the rest of the Davis Cup squad in Croatia in September 2013.

    Master meet apprentice.

Kyle Edmund is the young punch bag at Andy Murray's notoriously brutal pre-season training camps in Miami.

The 21-year-old soaks up baseline punishment and the invaluable experience of hitting with one of the world's best.

But in December, he dished some of it back up, beating Murray 10-7 in the Tie-Break Tens event at the Royal Albert Hall to pick up a chunky £175,000 cheque.

The post-training mojitios - served with isotonic rather than rum - were presumably on 'Kedders' this time around in Miami.
