Laura Robson folds out of the first set.

It is a long way back from this.

Is this another performance to be filed under "promising, but not quite enough"?

    Robson 2-5 Petkovic*

You cold put together one impressive showreel from this match for Laura Robson.

The trouble is that the highlights are separated from each other by some elementary errors.

The Briton wins her only point in the game with a classy serve out wide and ruthless winner back the other way.

Petkovic wins the other four points in the game though and Robson is back a double break down and the German will serve for the opener next.

    Sock it to em'.

Laura Robson comes out all guns blazing after suffering a break in the last game and her blitzkrieg tennis pays off.

She steps in and slaps a second-serve return down the line to convert a break point from deuce.

Is this first set still alive?

Laura Robson turns the air as blue as her outfit as he overcooks on the forehand once again to slip 0-30 adrift.

0-30 turns to 15-40 and Andrea Petkovic has two points to try and take a double-break lead.

Bold from Robson as she keeps hitting out despite her precarious perch in the opening set.

Fortune favours the brave as Robson claws back one break point.

Forward she comes on the second, perfect until the final volley that is planted into the net.

You know that all French professional carry similar markings to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's? It helps hide the exact number of them when they exit Grand Slams as a herd around the first weekend.

Over on Court Two, 28th seed Andrea Petkovic is more sledgehammer than silk, crashing down some serious service fire to consolidate her service break.

It is a bruising match out there.

Robson's big power game comes with a big downside.

The Briton's groundstrokes get off the leash and suddenly she finds herself looking at the ugly end of 0-40.

Three break points to Andrea Petkovic.

Robson scrapes back the first and is on top in the rally at 15-40.

But another string-stretching forehand gets out of control, flying well wide to hand the German an early break in the opener.

Plenty to encourage Laura Robson there.

She takes Andrea Petkovic to deuce in the German's opening service game.

Oh, and a lovely thwacked return across court from Robson pegs Petkovic back from game point. That one was out of a spot so sweet, you need to brush your teeth out after watching it,

Petkovic holds Robson at bay and gets across the line, but that will be a reminder of her opponent's threat.

The surgeon's knife has not amputated Laura Robson's main weapons.

The Briton's serve has retained its pop and fizz and she slugs down two biggies to see off break point at 30-40 down.

Robson is rocking about six shades of blue in one outfit by the way - but it is styling it out well.

Andy Murray speaking to Cedric Pioline on court: "It is unbelievable what he is doing. He had a bad injury last year yet at 37 is still coming out and fighting like he is. I don't expect to be doing that at his age! I am just pleased to have got through.

"He has always been extremely difficult to play. He hardly missed any volleys - until the one on match point and even that nearly got over - hit a lot of drop shots and hit the ball very flat and that made it very hard for me to dictate and get any rhythm.

"I had a bit of momentum yesterday. But I had to fight extremely hard today."
