"It's not been easy but since the restart Murray is getting a little bit more time to look at Isner's serve because of the slightly slower conditions.

"Also. Isner has not been quite as solid on the ground since the break.

"Murray will be desperate to finish this tonight and get off court and enjoy a day off tomorrow."

    Isner 6-7 (9-11) 4-6 Murray

Murray's got that break! Finally the British number one is grinning.

Murray loses the opening point after sending back a return with interest, screaming in frustration. Two Isner backhands into the net brighten his mood, putting him within two points of the second set.

After another exchange of points, Murray sees the job through. The Scot wraps up the second set after a wonderful drop-shot leaves Isner scrabbling, Murray lurking at the net to whack down the forehand winner.

The Lenglen crowd are throwing their support behind Isner it seems, groaning when the 15th seed lags a backhand into the net for 30-0. Murray continues to target the big man's backhand, that paying dividends as he holds to love.

Now can he find that elusive break??

Isner has been affected by that enforced rain break. Some might say his spirit has been, ahem, dampened by the wet weather...

Two confidence-lacking forehands fail to trouble Murray, giving the Briton a 30-0 lead. Break points a coming? Not if Isner can help it. The American goes to Plan A - bring out the big first serve. Four straight points later and Isner has sneaked out of the escape door.

Something is really getting Murray's goat. The British number one is irritable - more irritable than sneeze-inducing, eye-scratching hayfever. He's constantly muttering to himself. But it doesn't affect his execution, steaming past Isner in a hold to 15.

    Isner 6-7 (9-11) 3-3 Murray*

Not this time. Murray again barks loudly at himself, muffling his frustration with his hand. He didn't do much wrong to my untrained eye, Isner crafting an excellent point that ended in the big American showing soft as silk hands at the net to cushion a winner. Two backhand errors later and Isner holds.

    Isner 6-7 (9-11) 2-3 Murray

Murray appears to be sulking. The Scot has a little moan at his towel girl after he goes 15-0 down, then is cheered up when Isner misses a simple forehand. Another forehand goes missing down Murray's backhand sideline for 15-30...then moments later a break point falls into the second seed's lap...

    *Isner 6-7 (9-11) 2-3 Murray

Isner puffs his cheeks out as he waits on the baseline. That was a draining hold - mentally more than physically. Murray, despite his chuntering, seems focused enough, racing into a 40-0 lead. Isner drags his opponent back to 40-30, but cannot reach a probing Murray forehand with that suspect backhand.

    *Isner 6-7 (9-11) 2-2 Murray

Murray screams 'Say something!' after losing that second break point. Well I don't know what to say. Who's he talking to?? Isner keeps schtum too and let's his tennis do the talking...an ace and a well-constructed winning point finally swatting away Murray.

    Isner 6-7 (9-11) 1-2 Murray

Isner's first serve misses the target, the American going down the middle with the second...and it's easy for Murray to blast back. Isner goes wide with a backhand, but Murray can't convert the advantage. Moments later the Briton has another break point....that's snuffed out by a 133mph ace out wide. Isner forces Murray long, but can't stoop down to a Murray drop-shot...deuce #6...

Here we go then...take two. Isner has the ball in his hand. Murray senses a vital break chance could be coming.

    *Public service announcement*

The players are back out on court. I repeat, the players are back on court.

Andy Murray and John Isner are out on Court Suzanne Lenglen, limbering up ahead of the restart. The Paris crowd are slowly heading back outside.

The match will resume at deuce in the fourth game of the second set, with Isner serving.

    Breaking

Hello! Anyone still out there?? We have news. Positive news! The Roland Garros courts have been uncovered and play will resume shortly...

  14. Postpublished at 16:10

So the chat in Paris is there won't be play for at least another 40 minutes. 'At' and 'least' being the two key words there. Optimistic predictions are the forte of the Roland Garros bosses. I'm going to nip off for an ice cream in the Salford sunshine (that is not an oxymoron) and we'll kick this live text commentary back into life later on. Hopefully...

"Our luck has run out. The forecast is not great for the next few days. It's a bit early to say this but we could be looking at play going into the third week.

"It could have an impact on the eventual outcome as well because players will have to play several days on the trot.

"Dkokovic has a day off today but Murray could find himself coming back tomorrow and playing again on Tuesday."

I'm not going to lie...the weather forecast in Paris is stinking. And it is even worse tomorrow. I'd imagine there are a few worried Roland Garros officials scratching their heads down in the corridors of power.

Yesterday's rain delay lasted TWO-AND-A-HALF hours. Just saying...

Murray has his wish. Isner initially looks annoyed, then gives an accepting nod. Belting it down in Paris now.

Murray accuses the chair umpire of 'not caring' about the safety of the players, still chirping away between each point. Isner isn't distracted, battling back to force deuce. They're off over on Chatrier though. Now Murray is laughing incredulously - he can't believe they haven't been hauled off.

More brollies are being popped open at Roland Garros. One to watch. Isner is ploughing on, however. Murray has a sniff at 15-30, only for Isner to step onto the front foot. The Scot is chasing the ball left and right, Isner lurking at the net to volley a couple of winners. Murray is chuntering - he isn't happy at still being out there...
