Andy Murray speaking to BBC Sport: "When we start the match we are both trying to win, but it does not make it any easier. Liam played better as the match went on and fought through to the end and played some good stuff.

"The crowd is always very fair here, getting behind both players and knowing what a good shot is. Liam got a good ovation when he left court and I'm sure he will have enjoyed that."

Liam Broady threw just about everything at Andy Murray. Murray is very solid and is not going to let that faze him too much but I'd say Broady has played above his ranking in this set.

Hats off to Liam Broady for sure. He has definitely picked up his game a couple of notches since the first set. Andy Murray has made a few more mistakes in this set and that probably goes hand in hand with Broady picking up his game a bit.

The big question before the tournament was how will Konta cope with being the favourite and the answer is no problem at all so far.

Centre Court arises and - after the post-match flesh is pressed at the net - Andy Murray lobs his sweatbands into the cheap seats as token of thanks.

    Bing, bang, boosh.

Johanna Konta barely breaks a sweat as she comes through her first set against Monica Puig 6-1.

The British number one is now serving to open the second set...and holds with ease.

    Broady 2-6 3-6 4-5 Murray*

Andy Murray goes for two big shots from 30-30, both slide wide and Murray's chin slides down towards his sternum.

But now he will get a chance to serve out for a pass to the second round and an early exit back home to Surrey.

Andy Murray is making heavy weather of the tailend of this match. He holds to 30.

More importantly, the cameras have finally located wife Kim in the stands. The tension of Centre Court probably seems all the more manageable after four months of sneaking away from a sleeping baby without stirring her to full siren mode.

    Puig 1-4 Konta

Fair to say British number one Johanna Konta is absolutely bossing it on Court One.

She's broken twice to take a 4-1 lead against Monica Puig of Portugal, who reached the last 16 in 2013.

Konta is looking to reach the second round for the first time in her career.

Liam Broady finds an angle from off the protractor to pull back to 15-30. That was a sumptuous shot.

The British number six is being dragged to deuce though.

From a tactical point of view, you're thinking that this gameplan isn't working for Broady. You get the feeling there isn't a plan B; or at least that plan B is to do plan A better.

    Moore 6-3 2-1 Van Uytvanck

News flash: We have the first British woman to win a set at Wimbledon this year - hurrah!

Tara Moore, a wildcard entry, is a set and a break up against Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck (try saying that after a few too many boozy strawberries).

Moore has never got to the second round before, going out in round one in 2013 and 2014.
